Position Title: Food Services – Food Poverty Case Worker

Nature & Scope:

The Crosscare Food Services – Case Worker will be responsible for supporting people to address the routes that brought them into food poverty.

Location: Dublin

Work Schedule: 35h per week, over 5 days (Monday – Friday)

Contract: 12 month fixed term contract

Salary: €32,541 - €45,795 DOE

Reporting to: Manager, Crosscare

The Role

  • Managing referrals into Crosscare Food Services and identifying the optimum way to support each person/family
  • Engaging directly with service users to address presenting problems (debt, addiction, social welfare, employment, housing issues, etc.), advocating as appropriate and making referrals to relevant supports and services
  • Engaging with and building professional trusting relationships with service users, treating them with dignity and respect and working within the values of Crosscare

Data collection and Social policy work:

  • Developing and maintaining a basic data collection system for this work
  • Monitoring and tracking service users’ trends and issues to contribute to Crosscare social policy work

Working in collaboration:

  • Working with colleagues in Crosscare Food Services and other Crosscare projects to optimise outcomes for service users in the most efficient way possible
  • Working with relevant external partners - building referral pathways as relevant
  • Reviewing the project as appropriate and advising on future developments
  • Networking and briefing people on the services

Organisational:

  • Working as part of Crosscare engaging in team meetings, supervision, reviews and planning sessions
  • Maintaining Crosscare confidentiality at all times and adhering to data protection legislation requirements and policies and procedures
  • Promoting positive working relationships with other Crosscare services and external organisations

Essential Requirements:

  • Fluent English and high level literacy skills
  • Minimum of one years’ experience of information provision/key working/case working on a one-to-one basis and advocacy work on behalf of service users
  • Proven ability to manage a large case load and to manage cases until the original problem is resolved
  • A knowledge of Irish social protection system and other relevant statutory and voluntary social services
  • A demonstrated capacity to learn and apply new knowledge
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • Degree / post-graduate qualification in social sciences or equivalent experience
