Safe House Worker
Reporting to: Project Co-ordinator
Role: Safe house worker
Contract: Maternity cover
Hours: 21 hours per week
Salary: €21.05 per hour.

Duties of the role:
- Work with the manager and administrator, plus other designated staff, to create and maintain healthy, safe, and welcoming Safe House units.
- To be responsible for managing the waiting and admission list for Yana’s Safehouses.
- To conduct face-to-face assessments with all applicants applying for Safe Housing.
- To complete Risk Assessments for all clients who move into the Yana house.
- To induct women and children into the Safehouse and ensure they are aware of the house procedures and their responsibilities.
- To provide emotional support and advocacy for Safehouse occupants with regard to Domestic Abuse.
- To provide support and advocacy to occupants with regard to housing, move-on, and tenancy sustainment.
- Support women to organise childcare, local GPs, and schools.
- To conduct weekly face-to-face support sessions with clients.
- To provide resettlement preparation and advocate with Cork County Council, HAP, and Private Rented Landlords.
- To report Child Protection Concerns in line with the Children’s First guidelines.
- To manage the maintenance and Health and Safety of all Safehouses, including CCTV, and conduct Health and Safety checks.
- To arrange rent collection and rent supplement payments for all occupants.
- To develop policies and procedures where necessary.
- Develop and strengthen links with local agencies and communities.
- To work as part of a larger team within North Cork and to take part in Team meetings.
Person Specification:
- A minimum of one year’s experience working within Domestic Abuse and an understanding of the dynamics of abuse.
- A good knowledge and understanding of the Domestic Violence legal orders
- Knowledge of Child Protection issues, homelessness, mental health issues, and addictions.
- Excellent communication skills, including a non-judgmental attitude
- Experience in report writing and competence in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work alone and use initiative
- Must have your own car and a clean driving license
