About Archways
Archways was established in 2007 with the support of funding from Atlantic Philanthropies. Today we have a range of funders including Tusla, the HSE, Department of Justice, basis.point and the Special European Union Programmes Body (SEUPB).
Archways transforms lives by challenging, championing and empowering all our stakeholders, through universal and targeted prevention and early intervention services that are based in evidence. Through expertise, reflection and understanding, our people - and the partnerships and relationships they build - allow us to best support children, their families, the professionals who work with them and their communities, to create lasting change.
We are a national organisation working in collaboration with local and national agencies. We research, develop, and promote evidence-based and evidence-informed programmes for children, young people, parents, and the professionals that support them.
The organisation has grown and developed from an initial staff of seven in 2007 to over almost fifty today.
Our Vision is a society where children and families experiencing challenges are empowered to create lasting change in their lives.
Our Mission is to transform the lives of children and families in need of support by collaborating with them, key stakeholders in the community, partners and policy makers; building capacity through the excellence of our people and proven interventions.
Our values are that we will be:
- Collaborative
- Compassionate
- Inclusive
- Innovative
Our main activities include:
Families First
Families First provides an intensive systemic therapeutic service that addresses the multitude of issues affecting families including relational, mental health and addiction. The service also incorporates trauma informed therapies for both the young person and their parents and now facilitates working with younger children.
basis.point Initiative
The team oversees the delivery of programmes and interventions in various parts of the country that are funded through our relationship with basis.point including the KiVa Anti-Bullying Programme, Incredible Years Teacher Classroom Management and Parent Support Webinars.
Changing Lives Initiative
The Changing Lives Initiative is a community-based model, which creates a better understanding of ADHD and provides an intervention programme for families with children (aged 3-7) experiencing behaviours consistent with ADHD.
Systemic Family Support
We work with young people and their families that are involved in the criminal justice system or at risk of being coerced into criminal behaviour. It is a pilot-programme developed from extensive research using a new evidence-informed intervention programme that works with young people, their families, and the community. The programme aims to strengthen families, remove barriers to prosocial opportunities and increase community efficacy.
Blue Skies Initiative
Part of the Area-Based Childhood (ABC) programme which aims to improve outcomes for children, families, and communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country, it has as a particular emphasis on improving health, educational and social outcomes for children and targets investment in evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions. It aims to break the cycle of child poverty through integrated and effective services and interventions.
Research and Other Projects
Research
We conduct research and evaluation on a contracted basis for a range of organisations as well as providing support to our in-house projects.
Reach Out
The Reach Out programme involves families learning to communicate within a prison environment, which allows prisoners to begin to parent from within the walls of the prison. Developed by Archways, on behalf of Fusion CPL, it includes specifically designed modules on child development, enhanced communication and weekly parent-based mentoring.
Counselling and Support
We provide a range of interventions to families including specialist one to one support and a range of universal interventions including workshops on behaviour, play, social and emotional coaching.
