Job Title: Maintenance Officer

Reports to: Housing and Property Manager

Responsible for: To undertake planned maintenance and respond to repairs within Sonas Domestic Violence Charity. Working with colleagues and contractors to ensure all Sonas properties and facilities are maintained to the highest quality.

Location: Sonas locations across Dublin region

Hours of work: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm

Salary: Salary will be €46,837.00 in line with the HSE Pay Scales.

Applicants will be entitled to 26 days annual leave.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Ensuring that Sonas properties and grounds are maintained to an excellent standard.
  • Ensuring all work carried out is in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, Sonas policies and procedures, best practice standards and in accordance with the work order target completion times.
  • Reporting and logging all completed repairs to the Housing and Property Manager on a daily basis.
  • Undertake a broad range of planned and reactive maintenance and minor repair tasks including:
    • Carpentry, painting, decorating, and plastering
    • Minor electrical works (e.g., replacing fittings)
    • Minor plumbing repairs
    • Cleaning and repairing gutters, fencing, paths, windows
    • Concrete and masonry repairs
    • Testing and maintenance of alarms and safety systems
  • Conduct routine checks including:
    • Fire safety checks and alarm testing
    • Legionella prevention (e.g., water temperature testing)
    • Visual and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) of electrical items
  • Ordering materials and ensuring all paperwork and delivery dockets are processed in accordance with Sonas’ policies.
  • Prioritising and planning workload in line with response times framework.
  • Undertaking risk assessments to ensure any site-specific safety requirements are adhered to and that all work is undertaken in a safe manner.
  • Keeping the company vehicle in a safe and clean condition and ensuring the vehicle maintenance requirements are adhered to.
  • Keeping tools and equipment in good and safe order. Reporting any damaged or defective equipment immediately to the Housing and Property Manager
  • Attending staff meetings as required.
  • Maintain awareness of working in a sensitive environment
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality in respect of issues pertaining to Sonas
  • Maintain a high standard of work performance, professionalism, attendance, appearance, and punctuality at all times.
  • Ensure good working relationships are maintained at all times with colleagues and others with whom the employee comes in contact with at work.
  • Participate in supervision and performance management processes.
  • Any other duties may be assigned by the Housing and Property Manager

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Relevant Trade Qualification or equivalent practical experience in building maintenance (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or multi-trade skills).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a maintenance or building services role, including experience of reactive and planned maintenance.
  • Full clean driving licence (B category) and willingness to travel across Dublin.
  • Proven experience in completing a wide range of maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general repairs.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of health and safety requirements, including safe systems of work, manual handling, and risk assessment.
  • Basic knowledge of fire safety, legionella prevention, and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet response time targets.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Confidentiality, discretion, and sensitivity when working in services with vulnerable service users.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including ability to complete reports, logs, and order materials accurately.
  • Basic IT skills (e.g., email, Microsoft Word/Excel) for logging repairs and communications.
  • Certification in any of the following areas: Safe Pass, Manual Handling, PAT Testing, Fire Safety Awareness
  • Experience working in social housing, homeless services, or trauma-informed environments.
  • Familiarity with property management systems or maintenance reporting software.
