Community Development Specialists
Two Full time positions - Part time may be considered
Reports to: Social Inclusion Manager
Located: Carlow Town and county and remote working where appropriate
Salary commensurate with experience (35K – 40K)
Job Purpose:
This is an excellent opportunity to join Carlow County Development Partnership (CCDP) in the key role of Community Development Specialist. Joining a high performing team and reporting to the Social Inclusion Manager, the purpose of Role 1 is to develop capacity within our communities and work towards greater participation and collaboration. This will involve working with community groups and individuals across the county.
The purpose of Role 2 is to develop and support the Carlow Women’s Centre, including programming, use of space and services.
Our ethos is a firm belief in inclusion, equality and social justice underpinned by a community development methodology.
Experience in providing supports and creative solutions in one or more of the following areas will be required:
- Education and Training
- Pre-development supports
- Climate change and bio-diversity
- Women’s supports including DA
- Working with diverse communities

Community Connection Project
Community Link Worker
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Located: Carlow Town and remote working where appropriate
Duration: 18 month contract
Salary: in the region of €42k
Job Purpose:
This is an excellent opportunity to join Carlow County Development Partnership CLG in the role of Community Link Worker. Joining a high performing team and reporting to the CEO, the purpose of this role is to engage and work with local communities across Carlow over an 18 month period, helping build community resilience and understanding the facts and realities of the International Protection System and the challenges faced by people seeking asylum, in the context of communities with their own needs and challenges.
Experience in one or more of the following areas is required;
- Community Led Local Development
- Social Inclusion
- Working with marginalised communities and individuals
- Rights based capacity building
- Action Research

Roma Health Outreach Worker
Carlow and Kilkenny
Reports to: Social Inclusion Manager
Located: Carlow town and remote working where appropriate
Target Group: Members of the Roma Community
Hours of Work: 37 hours a week for 18 months (TBC)
Salary: €40K
Purpose of Role:
This is an excellent opportunity to join Carlow County Development Partnership (CCDP) in the key role of Roma Health Outreach Worker. Joining a high performing team and management that will provide continuous support , the purpose of this role is to develop capacity within communities and individuals and work towards greater health access, participation and collaboration. This will involve working with groups and individuals across Carlow and Kilkenny. Our ethos is a firm belief in inclusion, equality and social justice underpinned by a community development methodology.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- To undertake mapping and report on the Roma population, age and family groups, nationalities (and languages spoken), situations, health and information needs of Roma for the purpose of service planning; and
- To support Roma community members to access health services and health information and to provide general advocacy supports in order to support Roma engagement.
The role of the Roma Health Worker is to work on a community-based health and wellbeing project delivered at local level by Carlow County Development Partnership in collaboration with HSE Social Inclusion South East Community Healthcare, aiming to reduce inequalities in health and to improve access to mainstream and targeted health services for vulnerable and excluded groups in County Carlow.
The successful applicant will work as part of our Social Inclusion Community Development team and experience in one or more of the following areas will be required:
- A recognised 3rd level qualification (Level 7 NFQ or higher) in a health promotion and/or community development discipline
- An understanding of primary health care & an understanding of health policy and practice
- Experience of working using community development approaches
- Experience in working with agencies and services
- A deep understanding of cultural diversity & experience working with people seeking international protection
- Group facilitation skills, group work skills and a track record in the delivery of supports to marginalised people
- Planning, evaluation, research, IT and administration skills
- A commitment to work from an anti-racist and equality work perspective
- Access to own transport and a full clean driving licence is an essential requirement.
