Executive Director

Established in 1987 the Ballymun Job Centre Co-operative Society Ltd. (BJC) is a local community focused, people centred, placement, career guidance and training organisation. Based on a culture of excellence and innovation, the BJC provides a range of services and programmes supported by local, national and European funding.

The role encompasses working with the Board of Management for the overall operational management and development of the BJC. It includes creating a clear vision for the future development of the BJC and guiding the direction and implementation of its strategies to maximise impact. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of professionals, managing multiple projects and building strong relationships with all stakeholders internally and externally. The role will require a strong communicator and leader who understands the nuances of working with local communities, and or voluntary organisations, NGO’s, local government or community organisations, particularly in employment/career guidance, training, learning or human resources. A role model for lifelong learning and continuous professional development.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

1.  Strategic Planning, Governance and Development.

  • Assisting the Board in developing and implementing strategies that align with the organisation’s mission, values, vision and long-term goals and that will continuously improve the quality of its services.
  • Developing and identifying different strategies that will enhance the quality and delivery of existing services and new innovative services.
  • Provide inspirational and effective leadership, fostering a positive and collaborative organisational culture.
  • Stay abreast of relevant sector trends, policy changes, and best practices to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Board of Management, providing timely and accurate information to support effective governance.
  • Support the Board of Management in its responsibilities, including policy development, strategic planning, and fundraising.
  • Ensure effective communication between management and the Board of Management.
  • Represent the organisation effectively to external stakeholders, including funders, government agencies, community partners, and the public.

2. Team Leadership and Development

  • Leading and managing a team of professionals across multiple locations providing direction, support and motivation to achieve the objectives and vision of BJC ensuring its ethos, culture and values are implemented and embedded throughout the organisation.
  • Fostering a positive and inclusive team culture, promoting open communication, accountability and collaboration.

3. Innovation and Creative Thinking

  • Focusing efforts and energy on successfully achieving goals, based on day-to-day experience of staff and clients
  • Thinking creatively and implementing solutions for day-to-day problems.
  • Thinking ahead to generate novel approaches, identify opportunities, resources and ideas to develop the growth and development of BJC and enabling it to implement and test new innovative or enhanced services.

4. Organisation and Decision Making.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Overseeing the planning, development and implementation of multiple programmes and projects ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget and to high standards.
  • Making applications for new funded projects and work with relevant BJC staff to realise the potential of those opportunities.
  • Effectively supporting the management team in the day-to-day management of the service fostering a high-performance and motivated team.
  • Monitoring progress towards operational or strategic goals.
  • Analysing existing situations, being decisive in planning and making the best use of resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.

5. Engagement and Relationship Building

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of organisations and agencies and other stakeholders
  • Representing the BJC on/at various bodies, boards, meetings, seminars etc. to raise awareness and to promote the services of the organisation.

6. Budget and Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
  • Oversee financial reporting and ensure accurate and timely financial records.
  • Lead and implement the organisation's fundraising strategy, identifying and cultivating diverse funding sources exploring new funding opportunities both at EU and National level. Researching other commercial, governmental, and philanthropic sources to plan and develop new innovated or enhanced services
  • Keeping up to date on new EU/national and other funding calls and opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with funders and donors.

The Person:

The Ballymun Job Centre is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and results-oriented Executive Director to lead the organisation into its next phase of growth and impact. The ideal candidate will bring a strong ethical compass and a deep commitment to integrity, coupled with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. They will be highly organised, resilient, and adaptable, with the ability to navigate challenges while fostering a collaborative and empathetic leadership style. Above all, the Executive Director will have a strong belief in and understanding of the importance of lifelong learning, demonstrating a clear commitment to supporting others to engage in and benefit from learning opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience

Experience: 

  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience in the following areas:

Leadership Skills: 

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and manage teams ensuring alignment with organisational vision and goals

Strategic Skills: 

  • Experience in developing and implementing long and short-term strategic plans

Communication Skills: 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to present information and engage with diverse stakeholders.

Project Management: 

  • Proven experience in managing and delivering programmes/projects on time and within budget.

Financial Acumen: 

  • Experience managing budgets and resources effectively.

Qualification: 

  • A relevant third level qualification or equivalent.

Terms of Employment:

This position is initially offered on a one-year fixed term contract. The role comes with a competitive employment package including a salary between €80K and €100K depending on experience. The role requires working unsocial hours i.e. evenings and weekends plus EU travel. The BJC operates a pension scheme and working from home policies.
