Position: Part Time Project Worker

Location: Position will be based in St Aidan’s, Brookfield, Tallaght, Dublin 24. SCP staff may be required to work in other schools in the cluster depending on the needs of the project

Hours: 15 Hour Contract

Contract: Fixed Term Contract.- Term time September 2025-June2026. Starting date will be confirmed once the selection process is complete. Contract is subject to renewal based on performance, funding and the overall needs of the project.

Salary: The salary will be in-line with the CDYSB Youth Work Scale.

Vetting: In accordance with The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016, e-vetting will be a requirement for the successful candidate.

Project Overview:

The Brookfield and Fettercairn School Completion Programme wishes to recruit for the position of Project Worker. The School Completion Programme (SCP) is a targeted programme which aims to increase the numbers of children and young people staying in primary and post primary school and in doing so improve the numbers of young people who successfully complete the Senior Cycle, or equivalent. The primary focus of the Programme is to work with those who may be at risk of educational disadvantage through early school leaving.

Role Duties

  • Provision of direct, one to one and group supports and interventions to identified children and young people in the secondary schools and primary schools as part of the implementation and delivery of the School Completion Programme plan as set by the Local Management Committee and with the support of the Project Coordinator
  • Organising and facilitating the provision of in-school, out-of-school, after school and holiday time supports and evidence informed programmes for identified children and young people
  • Engaging the target group and supporting those children and young people to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours in the areas of social and emotional literacy, personal effectiveness, school readiness and educational achievement to enable them to effectively participate in the school environment.
  • Enabling and empowering pupils to participate in their formal education and other learning and development activities within the school environment.
  • Working collaboratively with other Education and Welfare Services including Home School Community Liaison, Education and Welfare Officers, the School Care team, Principals and other professionals to identify the students to be engaged with the Project and to plan coordinated intervention for those children and young people across appropriate services to compliment SCP interventions.
  • Reporting to the programme Co-ordinator and the Local Management Committee as required.
  • Keeping up to date with local, regional and national developments in the education and welfare sector, in relation to both policy and practice.
  • Completing reports and other administrative tasks and recording procedures as required including attendance tracking and managing files in relation to students engaged.
  • Undertaking any other work relevant to the development of the programme as may arise

Requirements:

  1. A recognised third level qualification (minimum Level 8 on the NFQ) in a relevant discipline (i.e., psychology, education,counseling/psychotherapy, youth work, social care).
  2. Training in therapeutic or health allied practices (i.e., cognitive behavioral therapy, mental health promotion, art or play therapy, etc.) will be an advantage.
  3. Minimum of 3 years’ experience of working with vulnerable children and families;
  4. Experience of providing emotional support to children and/or young people;
  5. Experience of working therapeutically with children/young people is
  6. Experience of planning, implementing and reviewing intervention programmes;
  7. Group facilitation experience;
  8. Knowledge of evidence-based practices and approaches (i.e.,solution focused interaction, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy approaches, conflict resolution methods, etc.).
  9. You will have an opportunity to avail of training in some of these under staff training and development
  10. Understanding of Children First guidelines;
  11. Understanding of outcome focused work;
