Ballymun Regional Youth Resource (BRYR) is a professional youth work organisation working for the welfare, development & well-being of all 10-24-year-old young people in the community of Ballymun, North Dublin.
We are recruiting for a full-time (35 hours per week) Project Leader (Community / Detached Youth Work) to support and manage the delivery of UBU Your Place Your Space programmes of work that support young people in their growth and development. A six-month probationary period will apply.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- An * NSETS recognised professionally endorsed qualification in Youth Work or Youth and Community Work is essential plus 5 years’ full time experience of working with young people at risk in a youth work setting in a paid capacity
Or - Have worked with young people for five years’ full time and have experience of working with young people at risk in a youth work setting in a paid capacity and have an equivalent professional Degree level qualification within the Education/Social Sciences /Youth Work or Community Work field.
- Experience & knowledge of working with young people in a comparable environment such as Ballymun
- Excellent liaison and communication skills
- Given the innovative and strategic nature of BRYR’s work, the Project Leader will be expected to have a high degree of flexibility, both in terms of day-to-day work and in terms of the work plan
- The Project Leader is expected to have proven leadership and supervision skills
- Ability to write reports, make funding applications and support others to do the same
- Demonstrated expertise in detached and street-based youth work methods, with the ability to engage and build trust with young people in non-traditional and outdoor environments
- Competence in interagency collaboration with Gardaí, schools, housing, and health services to provide holistic support for vulnerable young people
- Proven ability to mentor and support youth work staff in reflective practice, outreach techniques, and crisis management
- Innovative and creative approach to engaging marginalised groups of young people
- Advocacy skills to represent the needs and voices of hard to reach young people within the organisation, community and policy contexts
Highly Desirable:
- 3 years’ plus (full-time) leadership experience
- Mini-bus D Licence
Key Tasks
Report directly to the Youth Service Manager and to work as an integral part of the BRYR Senior Management Team:
- To work towards the achievement of the organisation’s overall objectives
- Ensure that the actions laid down by the current/future Strategic Plan are realised through annual work plans
- Contribute to BRYR’s ongoing review of strategy, policy and good practice
- Manage all attendance, timekeeping, leave and performance appraisal requirements for all members of staff team
- Provide supervision and support to staff team, using the established supervisory process
- Prepare and pursue fund-raising initiatives and grant applications
- Budget and manage the allocated finances by the Board and Youth Service Manager
- Facilitate staff in the preparation of all reviews of the programme of work and co-ordinate the writing up/publishing of monthly/quarterly and yearly reports
- Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of detached and street-based youth work sessions, ensuring they align with organisational objectives and meet the needs of hard-to-reach young people
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with young people in their own environments (e.g. streets, parks, community spaces), supporting their personal and social development
- Identify emerging needs, risks, and trends among young people encountered on detached sessions and feed this into service planning and strategy
- Ensure the detached team prioritises safeguarding and child protection, managing incidents in line with organisational policy and statutory requirements
- Develop pathways to connect young people engaged on the streets into wider BRYR programmes, services, and supports
- Act as a visible ambassador for detached youth work within the organisation, the community, and the wider youth work sector
- All other reasonable requests of the Youth Service Manager/Board of Directors
This position is funded by the Department of Education and Youth through the City of Dublin Youth Services.
Salary scales commensurate with Department of Education and Youth pay scales.
