Location: St. Oliver Plunkett’s Junior School, Finglas, Dublin 11

Contract: Part-Time (18.5 hours) and Permanent Contract

Salary: €17,107 - €26,442 (prorated salary for 18.5 hours)

What’s the role and service?

We are looking for an experienced project worker to join our Teen Parents Support Project in Finglas

Barnardos Teen Parents’ Support programme is a response to the vulnerability of families headed by Teenage Parents and provides preventative support services for both the young parents and their children. The TPSP targets young people who become parents when they are aged 19 years or under and generally supports them until their children are 2 years of age.

What will my day to day look like?

In this role, you will develop and implement programmes that respond to the needs of children and families referred to the service working in partnership with families and other organisational, community and voluntary bodies. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Assessing the needs of the children and the families engaging with the project.
  • Planning, implementing and reviewing programmes for children/young people/carers/families based on an assessment of their individual and group needs.
  • Working with children/young people/carers/families in a variety of ways, including group work, individual work and family work, centre based and outreach work.
  • Liaising effectively with families and other statutory, community and voluntary bodies and to attend and contribute to reviews and case conferences as required.
  • Being vigilant for signs of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, neglect and any concerns regarding the welfare of children. To record concerns promptly and accurately as a mandated person. To consult with the Designated Person and take appropriate action in accordance with Barnardos Child Protection policy.
  • Identifying and documenting to the line manager any unmet needs of children/young people/carers/families within the service, and to participate in the advocacy work of the agency.

What experience do I need?

  • A minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience of working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Experience of working in partnership with families and carers.
  • Experience of planning, implementing and reviewing programmes with children and/or families.

Do I need a qualification?

Yes, to be considered for this role you will hold a recognised third level practice qualification (minimum Level 7 on the QQI / NFQ) in one of the following:

  • Social Care / Social Work / Youth Work Or related discipline (Nursing, Psychology, Early Years’ Education).

Additional information:

A full driving licence and access to the use of a suitably insured car is essential.

The post-holder is initially assigned to work in the Finglas service but may be required in the future to work in other project(s) in the Dublin North Region in line with Organisational needs.
