Peter McVerry Trust

Peter McVerry Trust is committed to reducing the effects of homelessness, drug misuse and social disadvantage among young people in the Dublin area. The Trust provides a range of services through a continuum of care model, based on the principles of respect and dignity.

Peter McVerry Trust has the following service provisions in the greater Dublin area:

  1. Open Access Service - based in Sherrard Street, this drop in centre offers ongoing support, advice and advocacy for those out of home. It is the main first point of contact for many homeless young people with Peter McVerry Trust. This also houses Fr Peter McVerry's office.
  2. Outreach - the outreach team is based in the Open Access centre and support is offered to help source suitable accommodation and to access appropriate services to help people gain the necessary life skills needed to live independently.
  3. Education, Training and Development Centre - this new core day service opened in September 2006 and provides educational and training opportunities as well as one to one support to participants to help break the cycle of homelessness. A diverse range of programmes and activities are on offer.
  4. Residential Transitional Service - this transitional residential service is the longest established facility within the Peter McVerry Trust. Accommodation is provided for males over 18 years old; up to 6 places are provided. Residents' individual needs are responded to in order to help them progress to more independent living.
  5. Residential Community Detox Centre - recently awarded Clinical Governance approval by HSE, Northern Area the residential detoxification service caters for people who need a safe place to detoxify from illicit and prescribed substances.
  6. Residential Drug Aftercare Services - there are two properties from which we operate the aftercare service:

Avoca Aftercare Project - a residential aftercare service for homeless young people who have completed a residential drug treatment programme.

The Cabra Project - a drug-free aftercare facility for young people (aged 18-30 years old) who are homeless on leaving residential drug treatment, prison or place of detention, or who are homeless in the community.
  7. Tenancy Sustainment Service - Peter McVerry Trust has access to suitable move on accommodation for those who have completed an aftercare programme and have acquired the skills for independent living.
  8. Inter-Agency Partnerships - Peter McVerry Trust has supported various initiatives from the establishment phase right through to the current operation phase
