Independent Living Movement Ireland (ILMI)
About Independent Living Movement Ireland (ILMI): ILMI was established as the first Irish Center for Independent Living (CIL) in 1992 by and for people with disabilities with the main aim of ensuring that people with disabilities achieved Independent Living, choice and control over their lives and full participation in society as equal citizens.
Our vision: is an Ireland where disabled people have freedom, choice and control over all aspects of their lives and can fully participate in an inclusive society as equals.
Our Mission: Independent Living Movement Ireland is a DPO which is led by disabled people to create a national representative voice to collectively advocate on our behalf. We promote a social model of disability and removal of societal barriers that prevent active equal participation of disabled people, challenging the denial of people’s rights and the promotion of the philosophy of independent living. We will develop action research and collective policy based on Our lived experience and work with service providers, Government departments, politicians and civil society to bring about equality for disabled people.
