An Siol Community Development Project

Through an inclusive community development process An Siol aims to address the causes and consequences of social and economic exclusion.

Aims of An Siol:

  1. To act as a catalyst for and support the work of local residents in identifying and responding to issues of concern.
  2. To facilitate, with residents, the delivery of local services that enhance and make a material difference to the quality of their lives.

An Siol works according to the principles and practices of community development and acts as a resource to local residents and community organisations.

It works in co-operation with a wide range of organisations from both the community and statutory sectors. Our main activities include training, facilitation and general supports to local residents. We provide a meals service, social activities, mini bus and security services to senior citizens and are currently developing an outreach service with a view to identifying and contacting senior citizens who are most isolated in the community.

We run homework clubs in O' Devaney Gardens three afternoons a week as well as a tuition service for Junior and Leaving Certificate Students four nights a week. We also provide counselling and psycho-therapy services to the local community in Stoneybatter.
