Extern

Extern speaks up for and supports more than 25,000 children, young people, individuals and families each year.  Through our work we enable them to overcome their challenges, empower positive change and support family unity.

As a leading social justice charity across the island of Ireland,  Extern has more than 80 individual projects, operating from over 40 locations in 27 counties.

Some of our projects are self-referral, meaning people can refer themselves, while others operate on the basis of referrals from a range of partners and statutory organisations.

For more information on what supports are available where, across a range of ages and issues, you can visit Our Services and select the area you would like more information on.

Why we are needed

21,000 people, families and children supported each year across the island of Ireland.

4,500 children and young people supported in NI each year.

3,000 young people and families supported in ROI each year.

This year we will offer a minimum of 4,000 nights of respite for children in crisis.

We provide some 90 people who are homeless with accommodation and supports every night.
