Bodywhys – the Eating Disorders Association of Ireland is the national voluntary organisation supporting people affected by eating disorders, including families and carers. Our work is grounded in compassion, advocacy and the belief that recovery is possible.

We are now seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead our organisation into its next chapter of growth, innovation, and impact.

About the Role

The CEO will provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and advocacy on behalf of the organisation. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will ensure the effective delivery of services, sound financial management, and strong stakeholder relationships across the health and community sectors.

The successful candidate will be a passionate, experienced leader with the ability to inspire teams, represent the organisation nationally, and influence policy and funding for eating disorder service provision in Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of our strategic plan and oversee day-to-day operations
  • Representing the charity in the media, with policymakers, funders and the wider public
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with the HSE, Department of Health, and key mental health and education partners
  • Oversee finances, and compliance with relevant regulatory bodies
  • Promote a values-led culture of inclusion empowerment and evidence-informed practice
  • To undertake other duties that may be reasonably expected

Person Specification

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of eating disorders, mental health and the charity sector
  • Relevant third level qualification and member of a recognized professional body
  • Senior leadership experience in the non-profit health or social care sector
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, teams and complex stakeholder environments
  • Strong communication and public engagement skills
  • A commitment to person-centred, trauma-informed and rights-based approaches

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of charity, company and other relevant legislation and compliance
  • Experience in advocacy and public policy
  • Knowledge of regulation and governance best practices
