The Organisation

The Traveller Counselling Service (TCS) was set up in 2008 to provide one-to-one counselling and therapeutic support to members of the Traveller community. Overseen by a Board of Management, the service is run by Travellers for Travellers, and works from a culturally inclusive framework which respects Traveller culture, identity, values, and norms.

The service has now expanded to include Community Development Work, Advocacy and Training, and offers counselling in person, by phone and online, nationwide. 

The Role

The TCS is currently recruiting for an experienced part-time receptionist and personal assistant, for two days per week MONDAYS and FRIDAYS, 9am – 5pm. Reporting to the Operations Manager and the Managing Director, the receptionist will provide in-person cover at the front desk of our service. This role does not have the option to work from home.

Person Specification

  • Warm and friendly personality;
  • Completely reliable and dependable;
  • An understanding of the impact of social exclusion, racism, poverty, etc. on Traveller mental health;
  • The ability to work from a culturally inclusive framework;
  • Respect and empathy for the Traveller community, clients and counsellors;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality;
  • Good judgement and high degree of personal integrity;
  • Ability to form good working relationships and work collaboratively;
  • Ability to work on one’s own initiative;
  • Understanding of and a commitment to the promotion of equal opportunities and cultural diversity (anti-racism stance).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keyholder to the building;
  • Greet visitors and accept deliveries etc.;
  • Operating with the strictest confidentiality, answer all phone and email queries and respond promptly to voicemails;
  • Keep office space organised and maintain stationery supplies;
  • Prepare meeting spaces and document packs, and take minutes at meetings, as may be required;
  • Support all management staff with any admin tasks, as may be required;
  • Assist at special events and conferences occasionally, as needed;
  • Any other secretarial duties as they may arise.

Experience

  • Previous secretarial or administrative experience an advantage;
  • Previous work experience with Travellers or another marginalised group an advantage.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop good working relationships;
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills;
  • Proficient IT skills (Zoom, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own work;
  • Report-writing ability. 

This is a 1-year fixed term contract with continuation dependent on funding, with a six -month probationary period. The role is in the north Dublin city centre area and is office-based. There is no option for home-working with this role. The position is part-time, at 14 hours per week, 9-5 Mondays and Fridays only. The salary will be €30,940, pro rata based on a 35 hour working week (€17 per hour).
