Empowering Communities Programme Assistant
Henrietta Senior Citizens Service (HSCS) of the Daughters of Charity Community Services works in North Dublin Inner City to provide meals, care and support based on the analysis of needs of each of our participants. We achieve this by providing meals with social and recreational activities onsite, community meals (Meals on Wheels- MoW), weekly support phone calls and individual one to one work.
We are recruiting for an Empowering Communities Programme Assistant – 30 hours per week.
This role will expand the work of the existing Empowering Communities programme and will focus on the Senior Citizens most isolated in the community.
A key objective of the role is to support daily delivery of MoW, to build up a rapport with those participants in this context and through this to work with them to enhance their quality of life. This will involve outreach and follow up work. This role will also help participants to address concerns and consider the following quality of life elements of living independently in their own local communities:
- Personal Autonomy: Supporting choice, decision making, control and privacy
- Expressed Satisfaction: promoting life satisfaction, psychological well-being and positive self-image
- Physical and mental wellbeing: assisting referrals to appropriate multidisciplinary teams in the communities and Daughters of Charity Community Services
- Socioeconomic Status support: ensuring regular delivery of MoW
- Purposeful activity: empowering participants to attend our Day Service or engage in local community events and services
The Empowering Communities Programme Assistant will extend the work of the Empowering Communities Programme and also be part of the Senior Citizens’ Service Team and report all concerns and updates to the HSCS Manager.
Support and direction/ guidance will be given from the HSCS Manager and the Empowering Communities Programme and will involve direct participant contact in MoW delivery, outreach visits as scheduled and ongoing phone support.
The HSCS Service is delivered in conjunction with the Daughters of Charity Community Services (DOCCS) support services and referrals for Individualised Counselling sessions or Family Support as deemed appropriate are available internally.
Duration: The duration of this role will be from August to December 2025, with a potential for extension.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A relevant qualification in Social care, Community Development, or similar.
- Skills, knowledge and experience of working with vulnerable people.
- Experience (desirable) of developing outreach programmes in response to community needs.
- A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
- Understanding and experience of welfare issues and issues affecting vulnerable adults.
- Flexibility around evening and weekend work which may be required on occasion.
- Demonstrated ability regarding record keeping & reports on service delivery.
