Position Title: Personal Assistant/Support Person

Post: Part Time

Place of work: Termonfeckin, Co. Louth

Hours: 22 hours per week (However, there will be an option for staff to increase this at times to cover sick leave/holidays).

5h-10h shifts: Mornings, daytime and evenings.
Potential to work weekends and overnights (only after completion of a structured transition into the role and Ryan’s life which could take up to 12 months).

Pay Scale: Competitive rates depending on level of experience.

Starting rate: €17 or set pay scale in Agreement with the company.

It is essential that the candidate:

  • Holds a full clean driving license. Will be required to drive members vehicle.
  • Is comfortable around supporting Ryan with his personal care.
  • Works closely with Ryan and his family/circle of support.
  • Engages as a sole Personal Assistant/Support Person.

Duties Include:

  • Support Ryan with Personal Care Needs, showering, dressing etc.
  • Meal preparation for and with Ryan.
  • Assisting Ryan to develop his communication skills.
  • Supporting Ryan by driving him to different things, events, places, activities.
  • Basic note writing, petty cash, receipts etc.
  • Liaising and working in partnership with Ryan’s family and circle of support.
  • Supporting Ryan to experience new things (life tasting) within the community.
  • Supporting Ryan and his Family to plan.
  • Work one to one with Ryan within his own home and within the community.
  • Attend team meetings.
  • Adhere to HSE safeguarding.

About Ryan:

Ryan is a young man of 23years. He lives in Termonfeckin Co.Louth and has grown up in Drogheda. He currently enjoys going for the walks, swimming, listening to music, going on his swing and engaging socially when he feels comfortable. Ryan’s family are keen that he is offered the same opportunities to be part of his community and live an ordinary life as other young adult his age.

He has completed his schooling and is now looking for support to explore future options, life tasting and discovering what he enjoys doing.

Ryan has not always had a positive experience in the traditional services for people with the label of being disabled, so it will take time to earn his trust. He uses words to communicate but can become anxious which leads to extreme forms of communication. He needs a high level of support in certain areas of his life, and he can find it challenging to be in unfamiliar spaces or when he feels uncertain or nervous.

Your role will be to work closely with Ryan and his family/circle of support. It is very important that you are open to listening and sharing the space with Ryan. We believe it will take time for you and Ryan to build your relationship and trust. This is an important factor in this role.

You will be part of a small team of Personal Assistants/Support Person and Ryan’s circle of support. You will receive training, support and planning from Ryan, his circle of support and his family. You will also receive support from Ryan’s parents to help you get to know and understand Ryan. This will also help you to learn how best to support him.
