JRS Ireland is now seeking to recruit for the role of Projects Officer. This is a full time role (35 hours per week) principally based in the Dublin but with travel throughout Ireland required. Initial contract is for 24 months with renewal subject to funding and performance.

Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Projects Officer position is to coordinate development and delivery of projects in IPAS centres and to support outreach and other services in accordance with the needs of residents and the strategic priorities for JRS Ireland. Duties below are illustrative, and not exhaustive, and also are subject to change in line with priority needs of protection applicants and changes in the organisation’s strategic direction:

  • To coordinate the delivery of JRS Ireland flagship projects, including the Fáilte Project.
  • To oversee provision of reception, orientation and intercultural supports to individuals and families living in Balseskin Reception Centre, and alternative locations as required.
  • To support the delivery of a calendar of services, including education and information workshops, and to facilitate training opportunities that enhance wellbeing and promote positive mental health of protection applicants in Balseskin Reception Centre.
  • To oversee maintenance and development of the JRS Ireland Welcome Website.
  • To assist with the planning and delivery of activities and other initiatives as part of agreed JRS Europe and JRS International projects.
  • To contribute to JRS Ireland publications, in print and on-line, that give a voice to forced migrants and to support the design, maintenance and distribution of materials for protection applicants.
  • To support delivery of the JRS Ireland Summer Programme, Christmas Appeals and other JRS Ireland activities as required.
  • To support JRS Ireland staff in the provision of outreach, accompaniment and integration supports to individuals, families and children residing in IPAS centres.

Skills & Qualifications:

The successful candidate will ideally possess:

  • A relevant third-level qualification in community development, social work, social science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years or more demonstrable work experience in a similar role.
  • A full clean driving licence.
  • An understanding and knowledge of the asylum process in Ireland, the operation of the IPAS system and the integration of migrants.
  • Experience of working with vulnerable groups, social exclusion and disadvantaged communities.
  • Commitment to social justice and the JRS mission ‘to accompany, to serve and to advocate the cause of refugees and forcibly displaced persons’.
