Purpose: To provide support and guidance to both men and women from the Travelling Community who are seeking treatment or other recovery support services and providing personalised support to family members (if requested)

Job Type: Fixed Term – Part Time (12 months contract)
17.5 Hours – Times to be confirmed.

Salary: Hourly rate: €15.21

Coolmine is a leading drug and alcohol treatment centre providing community, day and residential services to men and women with problematic substance use and their families in Ireland. Established since 1973. Coolmine Therapeutic Community believes that everyone should have the opportunity to overcome addiction and lead a fulfilled and productive life.

We now have a vacancy for Peer Support Worker. The successful candidate will report to the Team leader. They will assist Team Leader and staff team in providing a quality service to clients and their families. A peer support worker participates as part of a team and they are expected to act as a viable resource to clients and staff.

Role Responsibilities: (Include, but not limited to)

The key responsibilities include the following:

  • Liaising with Traveller organisations, health services and addiction services
  • Engage peers and their families in professional and trusting relationships.
  • Practices a strengths-based approach to recovery and assists peers to identify and build on their strengths and resilience.
  • Develops tools for effective outreach which must include flexibility.
  • Provides personalised support to peers which includes providing concrete practical assistance to help them accomplish their goals.
  • Provides information and connectors to resources, services and supports
  • Engages with a tailored training plan as set out by Team Leader
  • Preparing and actively engaging in training, information sessions and workshops with relevant services/forums/conferences and networks
  • To work within the policies of Coolmine Therapeutic Community in order to ensure that a consistent delivery of service and quality standards are adhered to, including all health and safety and compliancy requirements
  • To complete all administrative tasks and ensure al handover reports, care plan updates, referral forms and relevant form filling are completed appropriately in order to ensure that the service runs smoothly and effectively.
  • To perform as a team member and participating in effective handovers and being open to reasonable requests from facility manager in order to ensure effective work relationships.

Qualifications

  • Applicant needs to be a member of the Travelling Community

Experience:

  • Can either have past personal experience of addiction or have a good understanding of the addiction issues affecting Travellers and their community.
  • Must be a minimum of 2 years Drug Free if in Recovery.

  • Good Role model displaying at all times a behaviour and attitude that is honest, consistent, and responsible.
  • Will advocate and address stigma.
  • Works as part of a team supporting the objectives of the Coolmine.
  • Is open to feedback from clients, colleagues and management.

  • Has good communication skills
  • Has Good computer skills
  • Desire to progress professionally through education and training
  • Enjoys working with people, is approachable, and demonstrates warm and friendly mannerisms, while being clear and explicit about professional and personal boundaries.
  • Has a “can do” attitude and a positive solution focused approach to problem solving and conflict resolution.
