CORE Youth Service is currently inviting applications for the position of Community Youth Worker.
St Michael’s Parish Youth Project, t/a CORE Youth Service, is a community based youth work organisation working for the welfare, development & well-being of young people aged 10-24 in Inchicore, Dublin 8. We believe that constructive relationships with young people are the heart of youth well-being and development.
CORE Youth Service’s mission is to build trusting and positive relationships with the young people of Inchicore by listening and responding to their needs for safety, trust, engagement and creativity.
We strive for spaces for young people to explore their identity, self-worth and potential.
Core Youth Service is seeking a full time Community Youth Worker to work as part of the Youth Work team in a busy, dynamic youth work environment and to engage with young people from a variety of backgrounds in innovative and needs based programmes. The post requires flexibility with opportunity to work up to 35hours a week and consists of day, evening and occasional weekend work.
This youth worker will work as part of the UBU youth work team collaborating with young people in delivering a variety of programmes in a fun safe environment using non-formal creative methodologies.
This role includes Street Work, with the aim to reduce the risk of harm to the target group and actively promote alternative pathways. This role will work alongside the existing youth work team and will collaborate with other organisations for the benefit of the young people.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and attributes
An NSETS recognised professionally endorsed qualification in Youth Work or Youth and Community Work
Or
Have worked with young people for two years full time, in a paid capacity, in a youth work setting and have an equivalent professional qualification within the social studies, social care, youth work, education, addiction or community development field
It is desirable for the candidate have the following
- Experience in outreach work/detached work/street work would be an advantage
- Experience/knowledge of working with young people using a harm reduction model
- Strong awareness of the policies relating to young peopl
- Understanding of professional boundaries
- Excellent communications and team skills
- Proven record of working on own initiative
- Creative and innovative thinker
- Flexible and young person-centred approach to work
