Leitrim Development Company CLG is a Local Development that delivers a range of social inclusion, employment, enterprise and community development programmes for Company individuals and communities in County Leitrim.
Leitrim Development Company has been awarded the contract to deliver the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) 2024-2028 by the Leitrim Local Community Development Committee for County Leitrim. SICAP is a targeted, holistic programme for those who are most disadvantaged, which provides supports directly to beneficiaries and links them into existing services. It is a multi-faceted programme that provides supports to respond to individual and community needs, aiming to ensure that beneficiaries receive quality, tailored supports, while also allowing flexibility to adapt actions to local needs.
Job Title: Education & Youth Support Worker (SICAP) Maternity Cover (21 hours per week) commencing August 2025.
Role: Employed as Education and Youth Support Worker under the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP), working collaboratively within the SICAP team and across the wider LDC organisation, the post holder will support a caseload of programme participants with education and training supports and tailored one to one supports and will oversee youth initiatives in the Company. While the post holder will work with all target groups of the programme, intensive supports will be provided for Local Priority Target Groups.
Reports to: Co-ordinator: Employment, Education and Enterprise (SICAP)
Contract Type: Part-time position (maternity cover) 21 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing individuals who are socially excluded with one-to-one advice and guidance on education, personal action plan, training and career opportunities.
- Organising a range of educational and training courses (accredited and non-accredited) which meets the needs of the target groups supported under SICAP.
- Oversee lifelong learning actions, personal development training and supports, and youth supports for SICAP target groups
- Manage and monitor budget relevant to SICAP actions.
- Ensure that annual KPIs are met, taking immediate where there is risk or short fall on the delivery of targets
- Overseeing the implementation of Local Training Initiatives for the Company including recruitment of participants, liaising with LTI Coordinators, and reports to funders
- Overseeing the implementation of Mohill Afterschool and Youth programme, including UBU Programme
- Supporting the delivery of youth work initiatives including in-school programmes, summer projects and after school programmes
- Inputting of data and training of staff on the Integrated Reporting and Information System (IRIS)
- Submit reports and achieve agreed targets set by Leitrim LCDC
- Work collaboratively with colleagues on the SICAP team and across a wide range of social inclusion programmes in the Company
- Collation of individual and programme files in advance of internal/external audits
- Treat with confidentiality any personal, private or sensitive information in line with the organisational policies and GDPR requirements
- Organise with the Social Inclusion Team a series of events and workshops on education, employment and community supports
- Identifying new projects to meet needs and identifying funding streams for same
- The above duties and responsibilities are not intended to be a complete list of all duties involved in the role, and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as deemed appropriate. Such duties may be assigned from time to time by the Programme Manager and/or CEO
Essential Qualifications & Previous Experience
- A relevant 3rd level qualification in a relevant discipline eg Community Development, Education, Adult Guidance, is desirable but not essential
- 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience of working with marginalised groups and individuals
- Have empathy with and understanding of the barriers facing target groups, particularly those who are most socially excluded
- Ability to liaise with and to establish good relationships with a wide range of clients, agencies and staff
- Knowledge of learning, training and employment opportunities and the range of services/ supports available to the target groups
- Be flexible and willing to carry out a wide range of tasks
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as on their own initiative
- A proven track record in administration including database maintenance
- A practical in-depth working knowledge of all Microsoft applications is required as well as a high level of organisational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of the IRIS system would be an advantage
- Garda Vetting will apply

Hours: 21 hours per week. The nature of work requires flexibility in working of hours outside the norm from time to time. (Time in Lieu will apply)
Location: Drumshanbo but travel across Leitrim will be a requirement of the post. Full clean driving licence and access to a motor vehicle is a requirement. Mileage will be paid at public service mileage rates.
Salary: €19.50 per hour, 21 hours per week
