Accommodation & Welfare Officer (Refugee Accommodation Centre)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop positive relationships with residents and maintain a visible, approachable presence throughout the day.
  • Support residents in understanding and adapting to shared living expectations and centre routines.
  • Monitor resident wellbeing through informal check-ins and escalate safeguarding or welfare concerns to the Centre Manager or appropriate teams.
  • Assist with resolving low-level disputes or issues in a calm and supportive manner
  • Support the enforcement of house rules to ensure a safe, respectful and orderly environment for all.
  • Address breaches of centre rules in a firm but fair manner, escalating issues where necessary.
  • Ensure the general upkeep and presentability of both internal and external areas of the centre, including communal spaces, corridors, outdoor areas, kitchens, and bathrooms.
  • Take proactive steps to address any immediate issues impacting the safety, cleanliness, or function of shared environments.
  • Encourage and support residents in maintaining their own rooms and shared areas to acceptable standards.
  • Carry out regular walkthroughs and visual checks to monitor the condition of the premises, raising any maintenance or health and safety concerns with management in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the turnover process for rooms when residents move in or out.
  • Conduct checks to ensure rooms are in good condition and stocked with essential items before new arrivals.
  • Report any damages or missing items and ensure readiness for occupancy in line with centre standards.
  • Manage the organisation and distribution of supplies such as hygiene items, clothing, bedding, and food packs.
  • Conduct regular stock checks and maintain accurate records of inventory levels.
  • Receive, log, and store deliveries appropriately, ensuring storerooms are tidy, secure,and well organised.
  • Record daily notes and incidents using the centre’s administrative systems.
  • Maintain clear and accurate logs relating to resident welfare, stock usage, room turnover, and facility checks.
  • Communicate relevant updates to the management team promptly and professionally.

  • Organisational Skills: Excellent organisational and time management abilities with ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Cultural Competence: Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity, nincluding knowledge of refugee issues and international human rights standards.
  • Team Player: Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of an multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Language skills: Proficiency in English is required. Additional proficiency in other languages is a plus.
  • Ability to carry out minor remedial tasks

Educational Qualifications

  • Level 5 QQI in social care or a related field
  • Relevant experience in refugee services, social work, or humanitarian assistance is desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications & on email.

Additional Comments

This role requires Garda vetting & pre-employment medical screening.

Will have to work 12 hour shifts – no over nights.
