Drogheda Youth Development

Drogheda Youth Development was established in 1993 to address the need for a youth service in the town. Our aim is to promote and support youth work in a way that impacts on young people to bring about positive social change.

Background to Boomerang Youth Service & Café

In 2013, Boomerang Youth Service and Cafe opened its service in the newly renovated Carnegie Library in Fair Street, Drogheda. The Centre aims to be a hub for cultural, social, health awareness, educational and community activity for young people. The service develops individual responses to the needs of young people and provides crucial “Chill out Spaces”.

Boomerang UBU is provided by Drogheda Youth Development CLG in partnership with Louth and Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB It is funded by the Department of Education and Youth through the UBU- Your Place, Your Space targeted youth funding scheme. to deliver 80% targeted and 20% universal youth service provision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Youth Worker will engage in the day-to-day delivery of the services as required.
  • Identify and engage programme participants in line with programme objectives
  • Deliver programmes incorporating individual and group work
  • Co-design a plan tailored to the individual participant needs
  • Contribute to regular assessment of programme delivery
  • Contribute to any standard performance reports, annual plan and other written reports as required by the Board of Management and Funders
  • Participate and engage with prescribed monitoring tools
  • Maintain up to date and accurate financial records of all monies spent according to the budget allocated to the programme
  • Operate efficient office procedures e.g. filing, participant records etc.

Essential Professional Qualifications and Experience

  • Education to National Diploma or Degree standard preferably in Youth / Community Work (note: candidates with exceptional, relevant work experience may also be considered in lieu of degree qualifications)
  • Ability to engage target group
  • A minimum of one-year relevant youth work experience in paid or voluntary role

Essential Personal Specification

  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with young people.
  • Understanding of youth work methodologies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to liaise with a wide range of contacts and build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and effectively as part of a team
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Good written communication skills, including ability to draft summary information and correspondence
  • Good computer skills, including Word, Excel, Internet and PowerPoint
