Employment Specialist for Individual Placement Support (IPS)
Community Mental Health Teams Sligo
Job Summary
Leitrim Integrated Development Company CLG works closely with the HSE in Sligo, Leitrim and South Donegal to support people in two community mental health teams in Sligo Town and North Sligo under Individual Placement Support (IPS). The Employment Specialist uses the IPS approach to support people in a recovery pathway which includes work and employment or a return to work and a job. The Employment Specialist will work with a caseload of up to 20 individuals providing IPS which offers intensive, individually tailored support to help people to choose and find the right job, with ongoing support for the employer and employee to help ensure the person keeps their job.
Reporting to: The project lead in Leitrim Integrated Development Company CLG
(support for the role is provided HSE Mental Health OT manager and 2 CMHMDTs the HSE)
Location: Based in Sligo Town (Community located Northside Community Centre) and collocated at Markievicz House and in the LDC office Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim. Related travel requires a car owner with clean driving license.
Position: Fulltime 9am-5pm specified purpose annual renewable contract
Qualifications and experience
- Significant prior employment services or other relevant experience.
- A good understanding of the principles and practice of IPS (and also Social Role Valorisation (SRV))
- Experience of working with and supporting vulnerable people or those who have experienced mental ill health with an ability to be innovative and be resourceful as a creative problem solver and able to empathise with job seekers needs and empower them to succeed in the workplace.
- Experience of supporting people who are unemployed or other disadvantaged groups to access required training and supports and to obtain and to remain in employment.
- Knowledge and experience of recruitment and employment principles, methods, techniques and resources. Kknowledge of interpretation of welfare benefits and disability/employment related benefits and the Irish welfare system and supports.
- Knowledge / experience of addressing disability and special needs issues in relation to employment
- Understanding of relevant disability and employment policy and legislation
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals / organisations and ability to successfully canvas employers on behalf of individuals.
