Community Health Worker 

We are seeking applications for the following part time post:
POST WILL INITIALLY BE FOR 12 MONTHS

This is a new and exciting community based post for someone who is good at and enjoys engaging with people, has knowledge of the broad range of supports and services provided by community and voluntary organisations, has an interest in Community development and works from an awareness of the social determinants of health.

The post will be managed by the Glen Resource Centre CLG with strong links to the Community Work Department HSE South West.

The post holder will have a reporting relationship to the employing organisation in the local area as well as a local steering group comprised of local representation/stakeholders with representatives from HSE South West.

The overall aim of the post:

The Community Health Worker will work across the Ballyvolane area of North Cork City and include areas of Blackpool and the Glen working with and enhancing existing services to support the development and delivery of Community Health Programmes for the people living in Ballyvolane and surrounds.

The role of a Community Health Worker will focus on improving the health and lifestyle of the community through a series of health focused initiatives that build on existing services and facilities.

The role looks to identify and then address gaps in service provision locally.

  • Chronic illness and co-existing conditions impact quality of life – work with community & health professionals in co-designing and co-producing community based initiatives
  • Coupled with a great expansion of housing, community health needs are vast and the project will seek to address through building on services.
  • The role seeks to address and identify gaps in these needs through its developmental work.
  • The Ballyvolane Community Health Worker will work from a community development model developing and supporting the emergence of sustainable groups through community health initiatives. This will be done in partnership with community organisations in surrounding areas with a focus on Ballyvolane and with support of Health Action Zone Community Health Workers
