Location: Liffey Partnership Offices, initially working from Drumfinn Office, Dublin 10
Reporting To: Health and Inclusion Programmes Manager
Hourly Rate: €60 per hour
Hours: 7 – 14 hours per week. Payment is not dependent on client attendance at sessions.
Nature of Contract: Specialist Panel on a Self-Employed basis. Must possess own insurance and professional indemnity.

Role Description

Role purpose – Liffey Partnership is a community-led Local Development company established in 1996 as a response to long-term unemployment and poverty in the Ballyfermot area of Dublin City. Liffey Partnership delivers a variety of programmes aimed at reducing poverty, promoting social inclusion and improving peoples life opportunities and outcomes. As well as working to address economic disadvantage, Liffey Partnership has, over the years, developed a range of other programmes dedicated to community development, supporting children and families, promoting lifelong learning and healthy communities. The Counselling Psychotherapist will work with clients from a wide range of target groups (including people impacted by poverty, unemployment and/or educational disadvantage, members of ethnic minorities, people parenting alone, people with disabilities or chronic illness) to provide counselling and support to clients affected by a wide range of presenting issues including anxiety and low mood, complex family and personal situations and the impact of marginalisation. Counselling forms part of the work of the Health and Inclusion team and will be delivered in a secure environment from our Dublin 10 office. Facilities available include a reception area and dedicated counselling room. Clients of the counselling service engage in a range of wrap-around supports in terms of employment, education, family support, community engagement and health promotion relevant to their needs and circumstances.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will

  • Conduct preliminary interviews and assessments for counselling clients. Referrals in the main come from staff of Liffey Partnership who have identified a need for counselling support form clients of other programmes as part of the Liffey Partnership model of integrated service delivery.
  • Conduct one-to-one counselling according to programme requirements, generally counselling referrals will require brief solution-focused therapy (average duration 6 x 1 hour sessions)
  • Keep appropriate client files, i.e. progress notes
  • Participate in team meetings as relevant to the role.
  • Maintain adequate client files, telephone calls and letters etc
  • To provide a professional counselling therapy service specific to individuals as assigned
  • To complete any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time
  • To make appropriate referrals of clients to the HSE and other mental health services as appropriate
  • In addition to one-to-one counselling the counsellor may from time to time be interested in delivering inputs to Liffey Partnerships group-based health, mental health and personal development programmes.
     

Qualifications - Candidate must on the latest date for receipt of applications: -
(a)

 (i) Possess a 3rd level qualification at level 7 or higher on the NFQ framework
      and;
 (ii) Be accredited as a counsellor with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) / ICP; or a relevant body within the Irish Council for Psychotherapy

(b) Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in a therapeutic setting that included working with clients experiencing marginalisation and disadvantage

  • Demonstrate flexibility and openness to change and ability to support others in a changing environment
  • Have experience and insight into the effect of trauma on individuals
  • Knowledge of child and vulnerable adult safeguarding and protection procedures
  • Possess strong professional and personal boundaries
