Cork Simon Community works in solidarity with men and women who are homeless in Cork, offering housing and support in their journey back to independent living. We promote a socially just society and campaign for a society without homelessness.

Cork Simon Community are currently seeking applications for the position of Night Worker.

Purpose of the post: 

Provide overnight accommodation in a safe and supportive environment for residents while encouraging them to engage with other Cork Simon support services.

Some of the key duties of the role include:

  • Provide a safe, friendly and non-judgemental environment
  • Ensure the operations of the project run smoothly and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Cork Simon Community
  • To assist and maintain good order and organisation in the project
  • Night-time security and monitoring of the building and its environs.
  • Work with the project team and residents to manage any behavioural issues that arise
  • Staffing the reception area, as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate various records
  • Follow guidelines on managing issues with any residents as instructed by line manager

The ideal candidate for this post will have:

  • Have previous experience in a care setting
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have the ability to motivate and empower people
  • Have a knowledge of homelessness
  • Have a knowledge of Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol issues and the range of responses
  • Have excellent numeric and written skills
