Jobstown Assisting Drug Dependency CLG (JADD) wishes to recruit the following position:

Job title: Harm Reduction Worker (Crack Cocaine Specific Service)

Reporting to: The Manager

Hours of work: 30 hours per week (including occasional weekend work)

Location: Jobstown, Tallaght, Dublin 24

Base: JADD, Jobstown, Tallaght.

Salary: HSE Social Care Worker Scale

Overview of service & role: 

JADD CLG is a community-based charity that provides treatment & rehabilitation supports to individuals & families affected by substance use problems in the Jobstown community of Tallaght. Since the early 1990’s, JADD & the Health Service Executive addiction services have worked in partnership to provide an addiction treatment services to the local community. Since 2022, the HSE have provided funding to JADD to provide a local response to the harms associated with crack cocaine use. This role is funded by the National Social Inclusion Office of the HSE.

Essential criteria:

  • Qualification in applied addiction studies.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in addiction services.
  • Training in harm reduction, i.e., needle exchange, Naloxone, etc.
  • Experience providing outreach support to individuals with substance use problems.
  • Experience of working in a harm reduction service.
  • Experience of collecting data on trends, prevalence, interventions, etc, and reporting on same.
  • Full Irish driver’s license.
  • Use of own transport, with appropriate cover for use during work.

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience working in a community-based addiction service delivering harm reduction interventions & supports.
  • Experience working in a challenging environment, with the ability to deescalate situations.
  • Understanding of the National Drugs Strategy; Local Drug Task Forces; NDRIC Framework, etc.
  • Experience of liaising with other agencies.
  • Experience of delivering crisis interventions, brief interventions, etc.
  • Understanding and knowledge of addictive behaviours and recovery.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience working with Salesforce.
  • Good communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • To deliver harm reduction interventions and supports that reduce the harms associated with crack cocaine use.
  • To facilitate Initial & comprehensive assessments for individuals reporting crack cocaine use.
  • To deliver brief interventions to individuals reporting crack cocaine use.
  • To provide case management support to individuals with drug problems.
  • To provide access to harm reduction equipment, information & advice to individuals reporting crack cocaine use.
  • To provide advocacy support to individuals with drug problems.
  • To make referrals to Tier 3 & Tier 4 services, as per NDRIC Framework, on behalf of individuals with drug problems.
  • To ensure that all service users are treated with respect and are supported to meet their goals.
  • To attend weekly staff meeting and provide updates as appropriate.
  • To collect and maintain client information in a confidential and professional manner.
  • To record and update data – both database and hard files.
  • To develop reports as requested.
  • Other duties as directed by line supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in training, as required.

Qualifications

A third level qualification in addiction studies/social care/etc, and a minimum of two years’ experience working in an addiction service.

Additional requirements

Garda vetting will be a requirement of this post.
