Clondalkin Travellers Development Group: Family Support Worker
Clondalkin Travellers Development Group (CTDG) is a community development project that works with Travellers in the Clondalkin, Lucan, Newcastle and Palmerstown areas with the aim of improving the quality of life for Travellers.
We currently have a vacancy for the post of:
Family Support Worker
The main focus of the role will be to proactively engage with members/families of the Traveller Community experiencing challenges including substance misuse and poor mental health to direct them to the appropriate mainstream services while also providing ongoing supports to the individual and their family.
Salary in accordance with experience and qualifications
The main areas of work will be to:
- Engage with members of the Traveller community and to build a trusting relationship
- Provide information and support to Individuals, parents and families on an ongoing basis
- Develop and deliver a range of appropriate supports to families and individuals
- Proactively engage with Travellers experiencing additional life challenges and to link these individuals to the most appropriate services/supports in the area in areas such as substance misuse/mental health, child supports and to facilitate that referral pathway while also providing support to their family.
- Liaise/network with key stakeholders to facilitate improved outcomes for Traveller families
- Identity any gaps and blocks to Travellers using mainstream supports and to work appropriately with the service providers to help remove these blocks.
- Establish and facilitate information and support groups as appropriate to meet the needs of the Traveller community
The ideal candidate will have:
- A 3rd level qualification with a minimum of a level 7 in family support practice/community development/ Community Drugs Work or Addiction Studies or a related field
- Excellent understanding of child protection legislation and practice
- A full clean driver’s licence and access to own car
- Garda Vetting is a requirement of this post
