Contract: Full-Time, Specific Purpose contract
The purpose of this role is to deliver a mediation service for young people who are moving out of care or young people who are on the edge of care, where family conflict is one of the main obstacle to a positive outcome. The role of the mediator is to provide formal mediation with the aim of resolving conflict between young people and their families in order to facilitate a return to the family home or to support the transition from care or sustain an existing placement.
What you will do:
- To work within the overall framework and aims and objectives of Focus Ireland;
- To provide a mediation service to young people referred by social work teams who are transitioning from care and where family conflict is the primary obstacle to achieving a positive outcome;
- To provide a mediation service to young people referred by social work teams to resolve family conflict which is placing young people at risk of entering care;
- To provide a mediation service to young people in other situations where family conflict is present and its resolution would reduce the risk of placement breakdown or homelessness;
- To manage an assigned caseload following best practice and an evidence based framework;
- To communicate regularly with the Head of Youth Services to update him/her about ongoing cases and to inform him/her of any issues arising;
- To provide monthly written progress reports to referring social worker and relevant social work team leader and to provide details on the work plan for the mediation input reports;
- To provide a monthly report to the Head of Youth Services;
- To engage in formal supervision sessions on a regular basis with the Head of Youth Services;
- To maintain accurate, up-to-date and confidential case notes and other records of the work being carried out;
- To implement the existing policies and procedures of the project and of Focus Ireland;
- To work in close co-operation with other Focus Ireland Services and relevant stake holders working with the child/young person and their family, where appropriate;
- To participate in relevant training and development courses and in project evaluation;
- In consultation with Focus Ireland’s research and development department, to assist with the measurement of the outcomes and impacts of the service against key performance indicators;
- To attend and contribute to Team, Section, Divisional and Agency meetings as required;
- To undertake such other duties as might be reasonably assigned from time to time in consultation with the Head of Youth Services or Director of Services.
What you will need:
- Degree in Social Care or related field;
- Recognised qualification in mediation work;
- 2 years relevant post-qualification experience;
- Knowledge and practical experience of Child Protection and Welfare Guidelines and Legislation
- Own transport
- Direct work experience of working with vulnerable young people and their families (Desirable)
- Experience of working in a multiagency environment. (Desirable)
