This position is funded by Department of Education and Youth, (DCEY)
The suitable candidate for this post will report to the UBU Project Coordinator work in the Athlone Youth Project team. You will be required to engage in direct work with young people utilising a detached youth work model as well as centre based and outreach methodologies. Facilitate the active engagement and participation of young people in the ongoing planning, implementation and evaluation of the UBU Project.
Supported by a team of staff and CE Youth Work Assistants, there will be cooperation and collaboration with a wide range of statutory agencies and others to strengthen local systems for the delivery of services and supports to young people.
Roscommon Comhairle na nÓg Role – 12 hours
The Comhairle role will be named as Coordinator for the purpose of Comhairle Administration but will not carry Project Coordination responsibility like our UBU or YDP Projects.
Comhairle na nÓg child and youth councils operate in each of the 31 Local Authority areas across Ireland. Funded and managed by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY), the councils enable young people aged 12-17 to exercise their right in influencing decision-makers on the topics most important to them.
In this role, you will progress the participation agenda within Co. Roscommon through the establishment and maintenance of structures that will allow for meaningful participation for young people.
The successful candidate will assist the Comhairle na nÓg participants in highlighting and progressing issues that affect young people. Also expected, is that the person will plan for, organize and facilitate regular meetings of the Comhairle, of sub-group and working group meetings. Ensuring that an inclusive forum is provided to young people to identify and discuss issues; develop/and or work on the agreed work programme and prioritise topics for working on. This post will support the work with the Comhairle to enable them to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively progress the chosen topics
Broader duties and training will be provided to the successful candidate.
Requirements of applicants:
- 1 years’ experience in a youth work setting minimum, plus a relevant Youth Work / community or relevant qualification and own transport is required.
- Good interpersonal skills, including ability to liaise with a wide range of contacts and build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Excellent standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to be proactive, use own initiative and work effectively within a pressurised environment.
- Positive and flexible approach to team working
- Good written communications skills, including ability to draft summary information and correspondence.
- Strong computer skills, including Word processing, MS Access, Excel, Internet and PowerPoint
