About TENI
The Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI) is a non-profit organisation working to advance the rights and equality of trans people and their families. Through advocacy, education, peer support, and community building, TENI seeks to create a world where all trans people are respected, recognised, and free to thrive.
Role Overview
The Executive Director is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of TENI and ensuring the organisation delivers on its mission and strategic goals. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director oversees staff, programmes, and organisational infrastructure, while fostering a culture rooted in inclusion, wellbeing, and impact.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader with strong operational, financial, and people management experience — capable of both high-level strategic thinking and hands-on delivery.
The position is a hybrid position with at least two days per week in-office. The offices are in Dublin City, Ireland. TENI cannot offer compensation for relocation for this position. Additional travel may be required from time to time.
Key Responsibilities
Organisational Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the development and implementation of TENI’s next strategic plan in alignment with the organisation’s mission and values.
- Work closely with the Board of Trustees to report progress, raise emerging issues, and ensure sound governance.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Board on operational matters, internal risks, and organisational development.
- Lead annual strategic review and revision process with staff and Board to ensure adaptive planning.
People & Culture
- Lead, support, and develop a small, passionate staff team, creating a culture of care, collaboration, and accountability.
- Ensure effective HR policies and practices are in place, including performance management, wellbeing, and training.
- Foster a psychologically safe and inclusive working environment that reflects TENI’s values.
- Promote professional development and mentoring for middle management.
- Lead HR, wellbeing, office infrastructure, HR compliance, internal systems and staff support functions.
Operations & Delivery
- Oversee the planning, delivery, and evaluation of TENI’s programmes and services.
- Line manage two managerial roles, including regular 1 to 1s, jointly develop work plans, and regular reviews.
- Maintain operational efficiency and effectiveness across all internal systems and processes.
- Lead evaluation of outcomes and impact metrics; oversee systems for data‑driven reporting.
Finance & Risk Management
- Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Finance & Governance Committee and the Board.
- Oversee financial planning, reporting, payroll, and grant expenditure, ensuring transparency and stewardship.
- Monitor organisational risks and implement mitigation strategies where necessary.
- Ensure compliance with Charities Regulator’s Governance Code and CRA/CRO reporting.
External Relationships & Representation
- Serve as a key spokesperson for TENI in partnership with the Board and relevant staff.
- Build and maintain relationships with funders, government bodies, partner organisations, and community stakeholders.
- Support the development of funding proposals and reporting processes in collaboration with staff
- Develop public campaigns or advocacy communications strategy to amplify TENI’s policy priorities.
Fundraising Development & Management
- Lead the development of a new 3 year fundraising plan to take advantage of TENI’s new charity status.
- Identify and develop new fundraising opportunities and partnerships.
- Manage strategic relationships with key funding partners.
- Oversee diversification of income streams – explore corporate, trusts, individual donors, events, and digital giving platforms.
Person Specification
Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven leadership experience in a senior management role within a non-profit, public, or advocacy organisation.
- Strong track record of people management and building inclusive workplace cultures.
- Experience overseeing budgets, compliance, and reporting within a governance framework.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Understanding of the issues facing trans people in Ireland and a strong commitment to social justice and human rights.
Desirable
- Familiarity with Irish charity regulations, funding bodies, and NGO governance.
- Extensive knowledge of the trans community and LGBTQ+ sector.
- Experience working with small teams and/or grassroots community organisations.
