Community Development Coordinator

Location: Cumann na Daoine Community Development Resource Centre, Youghal, East Cork
Reports To: CEO
Contract: Part-time (21 hours/week), one-year fixed-term contract

Particulars of the Post:

Cumann na Daoine (CnD) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Community Development Co-ordinator to lead and support the delivery of our core community projects. This part-time post (21 hours per week) is based in Cumann na Daoine in Youghal and is offered on a one-year fixed-term contract, with a six-month probationary period.

The successful candidate will play a key role in realising the strategic aims of CnD and supporting communities in East Cork.

Terms and Conditions of the Post: The Community Development Coordinator is bound by the terms and conditions of Cumann na Daoine staff handbook.

Salary: €27,000 per annum.

Reporting relationship: The post holder will report to Cumann na Daoine CEO.

Objectives of the Post:

The Community Development Co-ordinator is responsible for:

  • Co-ordinating a wide range of community projects
  • Supporting project leads and ensuring development goals are met
  • Advancing Cumann na Daoine’s vision for inclusive community development

Core Functions of the Post Holder:

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Community Development Department, including:
    • East Cork Traveller Project
    • Ukraine Resource Centre
    • Local Training Initiative
    • Blue & Green Community Network
  • Ensure alignment of project development with the CnD Development Plan
  • Manage and monitor project budgets and ensure effective reporting
  • Represent CnD in steering groups and community collaborations
  • Oversee communications, PR and social media across community projects
  • Assist with funding applications and the generation of new funding opportunities

Duties Include;

  • To meet monthly with the individual project co-ordinators to ensure continuous development goals are met.
  • To ensure the community development agenda is implemented across all projects as agreed with the CEO.
  • To oversee the annual budget allocated to each project and ensure appropriate records are kept.
  • To meet bi-monthly with the finance administration and ensure alignment of project budget spending/forecasting.
  • To oversee the expansion of the community development department within CnD.
  • To participate in the planning process within the relevant steering groups for each project.
  • To collaborate on in-house projects relevant to the overall agenda of the organisation.
  • To ensure all KPI’s are met and reporting protocols are adhered to for relevant funders.
  • To present quarterly work reviews to the CEO.
  • To assist in funding applications as agreed and seek new funding opportunities where possible.
  • Assist in the collation of the annual report and produce other reports as requested by the CEO.
  • Oversee PR/social media outputs across all community projects.
  • To agree the annual agenda of community, drop-in services with the CEO and ensure their delivery through the community development staff and the Building Co-ordinator.
  • To attend a progress report meeting with the CEO on a monthly basis.
  • Carry out any other duties as agreed with the CEO.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in community development
  • Qualification in Community Development or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated understanding of work with marginalised communities, specifically development work across several communities (geographic and interest)
  • Proven ability in community development programme design, group facilitation and leadership
  • Understanding of anti-racist and anti-discriminatory practices and excellent social analysis skills
  • Experience of completing funding applications and budget oversight
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent IT and social media skills
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • Clean driving licence and access to car
  • Ability to write clear and succinct reports
  • Willing to work flexible hours including evenings and week-ends.

Desirable:

  • Accredited professional development courses
  • Experience in PR/marketing within community settings
  • Poven ability to support leadership development within communities
  • Event coordination and presentation experience
