Hiring: Personal Assistant
(Drumcondra, Dublin 9)
We are looking for a part-time personal assistant to an independent young woman who is a power wheelchair user. You will be part of a team responsible for providing direct support and assistance in all areas of personal and domestic need and social/recreational activities. Your role will be essential in promoting independent living and ensuring the young woman has choice and control over every aspect of her life. Ability to drive the leader’s personal adapted van would be highly desirable.
Duties and Responsibilities will include:
- Providing personal care such as dressing, toileting, showering
- Providing assistance with positioning during the night
- Provide effective personal care and support in a way which maintains the privacy, dignity and safety of the Leader at all times.
- Light Housework duties that the Leader requires during the shift e.g, making / changing bed, washing / ironing, cleaning etc.
- Preparation and cooking of meals and assistance with weekly grocery shop.
- Transport to and support in attending social outings and events as the need arises.
- Transport to and support in exercise and sporting activities such as physio, swimming, powerchair football etc. as the need arises.
- The Personal Assistant must be willing to accept instructions and to follow the directions and requests of the Leader.
- Communicate effectively with the Leader and their relatives.
Hours: 15 hours block shift weekly (Sunday 6pm-9am Monday), with potential for additional hours as the need arises.
Competitive rates of pay: €17 basic rate, €19 Sunday rate, €15.50 overnight rate
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Knowledge and experience working with disabled people and operation of assistive equipment e.g. hoist.
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
- Must be reliable, flexible and dependable
- Have clean personal habits
- Fluency in English (written and verbal) is a pre-requisite for this position.
- Full, clean driving licence (essential) and willingness to drive Leaders adapted van
- Garda vetting is part of the recruitment process.
- To be amenable to develop professionally in the role by attending courses, online study, and other initiatives.
