Community Youth Worker

– DunWest Community Youth Project

(based in Dungarvan & West Waterford)

 

Role Summary:

The DunWest Community Youth Project operates in the town of Dungarvan and in communities in West Waterford. It aims to support young people age 10 – 24 years, by developing a community based youth work response to their needs and interests and the issues relevant to them, thereby improving their quality of life. WSTCYS believes in the potential of young people and their contribution and active participation is valued. As part of WSTCYS, the project benefits from working as part of an Integrated Service Model and the work is supported by local volunteers. The project is young person centred, strengths based and needs led. The successful candidate will be required to utilise a range of Youth Work Approaches to support young people within the project.

Successful Candidates should:

  • Have a Level 7 or higher qualification in Youth & Community Work or its equivalent.
  • At least 1 year’s (ideally 2 years’) professional experience of working directly with young people.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, motivation and initiative.
  • Have excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Be able to engage young people in developmental group work and one to one supports.
  • Be committed to working in partnership with young people, local adults and allied professionals.
  • Be a strong team player.
  • Have the ability to build, lead and develop a volunteer team.
  • Competent in report writing and record keeping.
  • Hold a Full Clean Driver’s Licence.
