About this event

The Lunch & Learn Bereavement Network sessions are targeted at people who work in bereavement, such as professionals and volunteers. These events are run by Irish Hospice Foundation, Irish Childhood Bereavement Network and the Local Bereavement Network.

This webinar will explore quality improvement initiatives for healthcare settings, which were developed in response to findings from the National End of Life Survey (2023), which noted that 29% of participants responded that they were not provided with enough help and support to talk to children or young people about their relative or friend’s illness (p. 9). These findings demonstrated the need for further support for healthcare workers to assist families with bereaved children.

The webinar will focus on the co-produced resource 'A Helpful Guide for Healthcare Workers: Supporting Parents and Carers of Bereaved Children and Young People'. Irish Hospice Foundation worked collectively across its multiple programmes (the Irish Childhood Bereavement Network, Hospice Friendly Hospitals, Caru (Supporting Care and Compassion at End of Life in Nursing Homes) and the Dying Well at Home programme) to understand the barriers and enablers of childhood bereavement support in healthcare settings. This resource prompts healthcare professionals to consider if a child or young person will be impacted by bereavement and encourages conversations with parents and carers about supporting children bereaved by the death of someone in their care.

Hosted by Irish Childhood Bereavement Network and Irish Hospice Foundation Local Bereavement Networks
