The Daughters of Charity Community Services (DoCCS) Limited is a non-governmental, community based organisation, providing community education and social support programmes to local communities in Dublin’s North Inner City. Our core services include a Community Training Centre, Early Years’ Service, an Adult and Community Education Service, a Home visiting programme, an outreach and empowering communities programme, and wrap around services. Our core service areas are primarily targeted to individuals and families who are experiencing socio-economic and educational disadvantage, and social exclusion. Individuals and families are often coping with deprivation, poverty, homelessness, discrimination, mental health issues, addiction issues and educational disadvantage.
Overview of the (Ctc) Service
St Vincent’s Community Training Centre (CTC) is a service of DoCCs who works to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in education. As such we work with a very diverse range of individuals from marginalised backgrounds experiencing socio economic disadvantage. We offer a variety of training courses including QQI and VTCT in the areas of Healthcare, Retail Skills, Barbering & Hairdressing to young people aged 16 – 25. We aim to enhance the learning experience by creating a safe, inclusive, progressive & accessible educational environment. The goal being progression into further education, apprenticeships & employment.
Overview of the Volunteer Role
St Vincent’s CTC seeks suitably qualified individuals to work as part of our QQI & VTCT accredited courses that are designed to meet individual and local community needs. We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of the ethos of youth, and community education. They will be required to fulfil the following duties under the overall direction of St Vincent’s Community Training Centre in accordance with Daughters of Charity Community Services objectives and annual plan.
Duties
- Plan, develop, deliver, and assess programmes that are responsive to the needs and interests of young people.
- Communicate and report regularly to the programme manager or staff on planning and outcomes
- Source and develop appropriate materials for use with young people and groups.
- Monitor and report on the attendance and progress of young people and groups.
- Maintain appropriate records as required by the programme.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in in-service training as required.
- Contribute to the development of an appropriate young person environment.
Expectations
- Volunteers are required to be respectful and offer of their time freely with no other commitments to phones or meetings while present as a volunteer.
- Volunteers at all times treat learners and staff with dignity and respect and promote the honesty and integrity of the service.
- Volunteers advise the Manager of availability and plan in advance what hours and days will suit for the volunteer to commit to attend the CTC.
- Volunteer to alert the Manager on any occasion where plans have to change regarding attending the CTC as a volunteer.
Skills, Experiences and/or Qualities Required
- Excellent IT knowledge.
- Good communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for the transmission of knowledge.
- Reliability.
- Be ready to make a commitment.
- Take an interest in other cultures and others.
- Respect for others.
- Must complete a Garda vetting/ background check for working with vulnerable people.
