APA (A Partnership with Africa): Board Member
APA (A Partnership with Africa) is an Irish-registered charity working closely with local communities and organisations to strengthen the voice and capacity of marginalised groups and people living in poverty (prioritising women). Our flagship project works with Domestic Workers (DW'S) in Tanzania and Ethiopia so that their rights are respected and they benefit from development and economic growth in their local communities.
We are now seeking applications for a new Company Director to join APA’a Board.
The function of the Board of Directors is to govern APA according to the values of the organisation, to provide strategic direction, and to maintain oversight on performance and risk management. The Board normally meet five times per year, including the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Meetings are a mix of in-person, hybrid and online, and last approximately two and a half hours.
The incoming Board member would be expected to sit on one of the Committees or the subsidiary Board.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Champion the mission, vision, values and ethos of APA
- Provide long-term strategic direction, approving organisational strategy and monitoring performance;
- Review the financial performance of APA and approve the annual budgets;
- Ensure APA complies with all legal and regulatory requirements;
- Ensure adequate provision is made for safeguarding the assets of APA
- Ensure APA has appropriate policies and systems in place
- Ensure compliance to all statutory obligations of a Company Director and registered Charity Trustee.
Requirements
We are seeking to recruit individuals with the following skills and experience:
- A background in charity/non-profit governance or regulation in Ireland
- A working knowledge of Irish charity law
- An understanding of the process involved in civil society capacity building
- A commitment to global social justice
- Strong strategic and analytical skills
- Willingness to advocate for the organisation
- Experience in HR management is desirable
