Board Member – Finance
Organisation: Domestic Violence Advocacy Service, Sligo, Leitrim, and West Cavan (DVAS)
Location: Sligo town
Time Commitment: Monthly meetings - alternate full board and sub-committee meetings.
Term: 1–3 years
About Us
Domestic Violence Advocacy Service, Sligo, Leitrim, and West Cavan (DVAS) provides free, confidential, and person-centred support to women experiencing domestic violence/coercive control across Sligo, Leitrim, and West Cavan. Our services include a helpline, one-to-one support, outreach, court accompaniment and advocacy with statutory and community services.
Our mission is to ensure that women and children can live free from fear and violence. We work towards social change by challenging inequality, providing compassionate support and advocating for the rights and safety of women impacted by domestic violence/coercive control.
Role Summary
We are seeking a finance professional to join our voluntary Board of Directors. Your financial skills will help ensure DVAS remains sustainable, transparent, and strategically prepared for future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of financial planning and reporting
- Review and interpret financial statements and budgets
- Support the preparation of annual accounts and audits
- Contribute to funding strategy and resource management
- Ensure compliance with financial and regulatory standards

Board Member – Human Resources and Governance

Key Responsibilities
- Provide input on employment and compliance policies and procedures
- Support best practice in recruitment, retention and staff wellbeing
- Offer guidance on compliance with employment law and HR regulations
- Offer guidance eon matters relation to Company Law and charities regulation
- Help foster an inclusive, healthy, and supportive workplace culture
- Contribute to DVAS’s long-term organisational development strategy

Your perspective and insight will be invaluable in helping us ensure that our services remain responsive, inclusive and firmly grounded in the needs of women affected by domestic and gender-based violence.
Key Responsibilities
- Reflect on emerging needs and domestic violence responses
- Support evaluation and development of person-centred services
- Contribute to safeguarding, inclusion and quality assurance
- Guide the design and delivery of responsive programmes
- Ensure services reflect best practice and meet regulatory standards

- Influence the delivery of impactful, community-based services
- Share your expertise to strengthen support for women and children
- Gain leadership experience in a governance role
