Domestic Violence Response Galway – Call for New Board Member (Voluntary Role)
Domestic Violence Response Galway (DVR) is a community-based service responding to the issue of domestic abuse in Galway. We work to support and empower women and children experiencing abuse, to raise awareness, and to advocate for systemic change that prevents domestic violence and promotes equality and safety.
We are now seeking expressions of interest from individuals who would like to join our Board of Directors for the 2025 term, commencing on 21st September 2025.
About the Role
The function of the Board is to govern Domestic Violence Response Galway in line with our mission and values, to provide strategic direction, and to maintain oversight of performance, risk, and compliance. The Board meets approximately 10 times per year, including the AGM. Meetings are a combination of in-person, hybrid, and online formats and typically last around one and a half hours.
Incoming Board members can also be expected to contribute by joining one of the Board sub-committees.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion the mission, vision, and values of Domestic Violence Response Galway
- Provide strategic guidance and monitor organisational performance
- Review and approve financial reports and annual budgets
- Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations
- Safeguard the organisation’s assets and ensure robust governance systems
- Uphold DVR's policies on safeguarding, ethics, and accountability
- Comply with the statutory duties of a Company Director and Charity Trustee
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for individuals with a commitment to advancing gender equality, safety, and social justice. We particularly welcome candidates with experience in any of the following areas:
- Non-profit or charity governance in Ireland
- Knowledge of Irish charity law and regulation
- Experience in civil society, community development, or advocacy
- Strategic and analytical thinking skills
- HR management (desirable)
- A willingness to advocate for the organisation and contribute to its growth

Board positions are voluntary and non-remunerated.
