Cairde Roma Programme: National Report on Early Marriages & Early Motherhood in Roma Communities - Ireland

Cairde is proud to be part of the Erasmus+ project Roma Influencers Breaking the Circle of Early Marriages and Early Motherhood in Roma Communities (Roma Influencers Network), which addresses the serious impact of early marriage and motherhood in Roma communities. The project aims to empower Roma women and girls by promoting awareness, protection, and behavioural change to reduce and ultimately eliminate these harmful practices.

Led by Klimaka (Greece), and delivered in partnership with Cairde (Ireland), CESIS and CooperActiva (Portugal), and Sastipen (Romania), the initiative runs until the end of 2026.

As part of Work Package 2, Cairde Roma Programme has published the National Report on Early Marriages and Early Motherhood in Roma Communities – IRELAND, under Activity 2.2: national research across four countries. The report provides an overview of the Irish legal and policy context, alongside insights into the realities faced by Roma communities in Ireland. It is accompanied by a Comparative Report on Early Marriages and Early Motherhood in Roma Communities reflecting findings across all participating countries.

Both reports and more information about the project and both reports can be accessed here.
