Every year, bright and determined young people across Ireland face a future limited not by their potential – but by poverty. In 2024 alone, more than 190,000 children were living in poverty (CSO Survey of Income and Living Conditions 2024). That same year, SVP received over 4,000 requests for help with university and college course support, including more than 200 first-time callers.

One of those calls came from Kathleen, who turned to SVP when she had nowhere else to go. Her daughter Emily – top of her class and dreaming of becoming a nurse – faced losing her chance at a university education. Not because she lacked talent. But because of poverty and hardship.

Thanks to generous people like you, the SVP’s Education and Training Bursary Fund stepped in. Today, Emily is a qualified nurse, has finished top of her class, and is about to begin her first job in the nursing profession. Her life was changed forever – because someone like you chose to give.
