Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Volunteer Centre are delighted to be seeking new board members who are passionate about volunteering and who have time available to volunteer for this role. This is an exciting time for our Centre, as we work with our sister Centres across Dublin to develop a Strategy for Volunteering in Dublin.
Purpose of this Role:
As a member of our Board you will gain valuable personal and professional experience. While also contributing to the ongoing strategic development and governance of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Volunteer Centre CLG. In your role, you will be involved in:
- Influencing the strategic direction of DLR Volunteer Centre
- Leading on good governance, legal and regulatory compliance
- Annual Planning and Financial decisions
- Assisting the Manager of the Centre in specific areas
- Developing volunteering in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown
Time Commitment
Board members attend 5 board meetings annually, these meetings are 1.5 hours in length and are generally on Tuesday evenings from 5.00-6.30 in Dún Laoghaire. Occasionally some board members may also be active on a sub committee, which would meet between meetings, at a time that suits.
Board Members would also need to have time between board meetings to read particular items sent by the manager for feedback and to be actively engaged on topics between meetings. Some weeks there will be no time commitment, on other weeks, 1-2 hours would be asked of members, this can be flexible and the volunteer can choose when to give their time.
Support, Training & Getting started:
A full Induction is provided and all new Board members will meet with the chair before attending their first meeting. Initially new members, are invited to join the Board for six months in an informal capacity and if the role is a good fit for the volunteer and the organisation, the role can be formalised and the volunteer will be invited to become a director of the Board
Board members will also be given the board handbook, annual and strategic plan and other relevant documents before starting. As well, as being offered any relevant external training that is available.
We are particularly interested in hearing from volunteers who have skills/experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Communications and PR,
- Human Resources
- Civic Action and Environmental Volunteering
- Strategic Development
- Knowledge of volunteering and volunteer involving organisations
Board members would also need to be:
- Excellent communicators
- Comfortable engaging at meetings, with an ability to develop strong working relationships.
- Proactive and willing to engage between meetings
- Previous experience with voluntary groups or serving on boards/committees would be beneficial but is not essential.
