Main Responsibilities
The Youth Development Officer will be supervised by the CPM and assisted by a steering group comprise of at least a Board member, members of the Intercultural Youth Society (IYS) members of the Africa Centre. The position is based at the Africa Centre office – however the post will involve networking with African, migrants and Irish young people across Ireland in a range of activities.
Job Purpose: To help in developing and deliver the Africa Centre Ireland’s Youth Development Programme that increases opportunities for young people to be regular participants and develop their skills in a range of activities. Some duties in this position will entail planning events, evening and weekend work. A system for taking time in lieu of hours worked outside the normal working day is in place.
Key Tasks:
- Working with the Community Participation Manager, and in consultation with the working group, to start developing ideas for the Africa Centre Ireland’s Youth Development Strategic as part of Africa Centre Strategic Plan 2025-2030.
- To prepare and agree with the CPM a work Plan which sets out the proposed events, meetings and other activities for young people
- To promote and publicise all aspects of the Intercultural Youth Society through appropriate publicity and commit to regular communication with participants
- To act as the initial staff, contact point in liaising with youth organisations, identify and seek appropriate funding and sponsorship opportunities to secure both the sustainability of existing programmes or events and the development of further activities and meet any associated reporting or monitoring requirements
- To ensure that all programme activities are carried out in accordance with Ireland’s Children’s Policy and all relevant statutory and procedural requirements
- To maintain an up to date and comprehensive database of programme participants, volunteers and other contacts
- Other tasks which may be required and designated by the Africa Centre from time to time
