Scouting Ireland: Senior Safeguarding Officer (Part Time)

  • Three Year Fixed Term Contract
  • Part Time position 20 hours per week - Monday to Sunday. The successful candidate must be willing to work during the evenings and on weekends, when necessary.
  • Salary: €60,000 pro rata

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Supporting the effective management of Scouting Irelands Safeguarding Department.
  • Work closely with the Safeguarding Manager with all aspects of the day to day running of the Safeguarding Department.
  • Work closely with team members in the management of cases.
  • Deputise for the Safeguarding Manager where required in decision making as appropriate.
  • Carry out assessments as to the suitability of a member who has been brought to the attention of Scouting Irelands Safeguarding Department
  • Contributing knowledge to ensure policies are appropriate and reviewed in a timely manner and updated and/or redesigned as required.
  • Develop informal working relationship with professionals in the area that are mutually beneficial.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to ensure their ability to carry out the role effectively.
  • In conjunction with the team, carry out regular internal audit of all aspects of the Safeguarding function as well as commissioning independent external audit.
  • Assist in the management of pending legal cases relating to present and non-recent safeguarding matters. Assist Scouting Ireland in dealing with press enquiries relating to Safeguarding matters for Scouting Ireland

Key Skills and Competencies:

Essential:

  • Educated to third level standard or equivalent in an appropriate Safeguarding discipline.
  • At least two years’ experience and a proven track record in a safeguarding/child protection management.
  • Track record of success within a target-driven and measured environment.
  • Track record of strong planning and organisation skills.
  • An ability to influence key decision makers with the organisation
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent meeting, project management and people skills.
  • Positive and energetic attitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to use standard computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.
  • Sound judgement and a strategic mind-set.
  • High motivation, positive disposition, and flexible attitude in response to organisational change and development.
  • An ability to deal confidentially with sensitive material.

Desirable:

  • Qualification in Social Work or in a related field.
  • Professional experience in non- profit environment.
  • Knowledge of non-profit sector in Ireland.
  • Comprehensive understanding of statutory child safeguarding provision in both jurisdictions in Ireland
  • A natural and enthusiastic networker
  • A strong understanding of Scouting Ireland’s methods, ethos and aims.
  • An appreciation / Knowledge of data protection legislation
