Request for Quotation: Autistic people’s rights to accessible information and protection from sexual harm - How Autistic people, their families and those who support them understand consent in theory and practice.
Who we are:
AsIAm is collaborating with We-Consent, a project of Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. AsIAm is Ireland’s Autism Charity. Our vision is an Ireland in which every Autistic person is accepted as they are - equal, valued and respected. We work to support the Autistic community and their families to fully engage in Irish life and build the capacity of society to facilitate true inclusion. We-Consent is a long term, national programme that aims to inform, educate and engage with all members of society about consent.
Research problem: A Research Analysis on Consent and Autistic people.
This research will assist in identifying what education, information, and communication is needed contribute to a better understanding, and practice of, consent for Autistic people.
Aim of the Project:
The aim of this project is to carry out qualitative and quantitative research to increase the understanding of what Autistic people and their families think and feel about consent and to understand what education, information, and communication they need to navigate consent and protect against sexual harm. It will include Autistic people and their families at each stage of the project. The goal of the research is to provide an evidence base to address gaps in knowledge and information and make recommendations on the steps that need to be taken to address these gaps.
Responsibilities of the Researcher:
- Conduct a systematic literature review of existing international literature in this area to establish themes and identify gaps in research.
- Hold focus groups with parents/guardians and Autistic Adults to ascertain emerging findings.
- Carry out quantitative data collection and analysis of the survey responses.
- Conduct data analysis of focus groups using a suitable approach.
- Produce a report which provides a background to the problem, describes all stages of the research process, findings and proposes recommendations to stakeholders.
- Provide monthly updates to the lead organisation via online meetings on the research piece.
- Prioritise ethical considerations throughout the research.
The proposal should provide the following information:
- Propose a timeline for the research process including literature review, data analysis and report (max 250 words).
- Two examples of relevant previous research experience with the wider disability community and/or relating to Domestic, Sexual & Gender Based Violence including methodology undertaken and impact of project (max 150).
- Cost – include full breakdown of proposed costs (including where applicable VAT).
