About Citywide

Citywide Drugs Crisis Campaign is a national network of community activists and community organisations that are involved in responding to Ireland’s drugs crisis. Citywide was set up in 1995 by the Inner City Organisations Network (ICON), to bring together Dublin communities that were struggling with the heroin crisis. Citywide now works nationally linking communities across the country dealing with a range of substance misuse issues.

CityWide works to promote and support the participation of communities most affected by the drugs crisis in responding to drugs problems through a partnership approach that is underpinned by a community development ethos.

Job Description

Title: Community Development Worker
Reporting to: Citywide Co-ordinator

Main Purpose: 

This post has two main objectives:

  1. To support the development of the Citywide networks and to support and assist in progressing and developing the aims and objectives of the organisation.
  2. To further develop the social media profile of Citywide

Salary: €42,000 – 45,000 per annum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Citywide team in relation to the development of its community networks, in particular the Drugs Task Force Community Representatives network.
  • To support in organising and facilitating network sessions and to devise appropriate materials.
  • To work with the Citywide team to organise drug policy and information events.
  • To carry out research and develop materials to support these events.
  • To assist in the management, research and development of Citywide’s presence across a variety of Social Media platforms through content generation and analysis
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the principles of community development and a minimum of five years paid work experience in community development
  • Significant experience of working on the ground in local communities
  • Knowledge and understanding of community drugs issues & substance misuse and the policy responses
  • Personally motivated and have the ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work within a team and in a flexible manner and outside of normal office hours
  • Understanding of the role of Social Media in furthering the aims of a campaigning organisation

In addition to a relevant qualification in community development/social policy (or equivalence in work experience) the candidate will require strong technical competency in the following:

  • Community development practice
  • Demonstrable experience of communicating to diverse audiences through a variety of social media
  • Working on partnership and interagency structures & a proven capacity to network effectively
  • Group facilitation and meeting management
  • Policy analysis skills and experience
  • Organisational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Report -writing skills
  • Training development appropriate to group needs
  • An ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Administration capacity to discharge the functions of the post
