MRCI is inviting applications for the dynamic and exciting role of Communications Officer. This person will have responsibility for developing and driving MRCI’s internal and external communications. The role will involve supporting campaigns, fundraising, developing framing and messaging, managing social media and liaising with the media to ensure community members and people impacted are at the forefront of our work. This role will be supported by the Director and the rest of the MRCI team.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with drive, who believes that migration and the movement of people is an inherent right. Someone who feels strongly about migrant rights and worker rights. Someone who sees themselves playing an active part in tackling injustice and has the capacity to shape narratives with people affected by injustice and inequality. Can you craft strong values-driven communications? Can you manage competing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment? Can you roll up your sleeves and get stuck in? Key responsibilities in this role

  • Drive the communications of MRCI with the support of the Director
  • Develop strong framing and messaging in the area of migration and migrant rights for social media, media and campaigns
  • Manage and grow MRCI’s social media accounts in line with values of the organisation
  • Support MRCI’s campaigns, collaborating on content development for key outputs
  • With the Fundraising Coordinator, grow MRCI’s base of supporters to generate income for the organisation
  • Maintain regular communications with MRCI’s supporters and engage them in new campaigns
  • Maintain and develop MRCI's website to highest standards
  • Oversee the production and dissemination of MRCI's publications and content
  • Support MRCI’s external communications activities, e.g., launches, press releases, events, conferences, presentations
  • Provide main point of contact for media, i.e., manage requests from press & broadcast for information, interviews, and case studies
  • Support MRCI staff, community leaders and activists to develop key messaging and build their media skills
  • Collaborate where necessary on maintenance and development of MRCI’s database for external communications
  • From time to time represent MRCI in external events i.e., media interviews, conferences
  • Coordinate in-house training and in media and communications
  • Undertake additional tasks as agreed with the Board and Director

Essential criteria

  • Relevant qualification and 2 years’ experience working in communications, public relations, media, marketing, or campaigning.
  • Clear commitment to and motivated by tackling injustice and advancing migrant rights
  • Excellent IT and digital media skills, including ability to navigate diverse software packages
  • Ability to manage social media accounts in line with values of the organisation
  • Very strong communications skills in general including interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to tight deadlines and to respond to external environment and breaking news
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multilingual, and intercultural context
  • A self-starter, who demonstrates initiative and has the ability to be creative, flexible and innovative

Desirable criteria

  • Understanding and experience of the role of messaging and framing in campaigns, on social media and the media
  • Experience of working with the media and managing relationships with key stakeholders
  • Good understanding of current affairs and news cycles
  • Working knowledge of other languages
  • Understanding and analysis of migration and issues facing migrants
  • Experience of linking communications to fundraising strategy

Terms and Conditions

  • This is a fixed term contract commencing 9th January 2023 and terminating January 31st, 2024
  • Salary for the role is €41,800 - €44,800 pro-rata based on experience
  • Full time 5 days, and possibility of 4-day pro-rata option available
  • This is a hybrid working role with some days per week required in office and some out of office hours required
  • 33 days annual leave (25 days annual leave plus an 8 set days paid leave at Christmas and Easter)
  • A diverse working environment with flexible and supportive working arrangements
  • Pension contribution of 5% of salary to PRSA
