Oasis House Women’s Refuge

Oasis House Women’s Refuge is a long-established community service based in Waterford City. It provides a service sensitive to the needs of women and women with their children experiencing domestic violence and/or homelessness.

This role entails relief cover for the Accommodation, Helpline and Drop-in services and provides fantastic benefits including induction, opportunity to work with a supportive team, EAP programme, training and development opportunities, excellent experience (including but not limited to Interagency working, Advocacy, Reflective Practice, Keyworking, Referral processes, Assessments).

Oasis House is currently recruiting for the following positions:

Senior Refuge Worker

Reporting to: Manager
Location: Waterford City
Closing date: 5pm on 29th August 2022
Hours: 36 hours per week

Minimum Experience & Educational Requirements:

  • Level 8 degree in Applied Social Studies in Social Care or equivalent and minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

Job Purpose

The Senior Refuge Worker will support Management in leading and managing the Refuge Service which operates the crisis 24/7 emergency accommodation service, 2nd Stage Housing, 24/7 Helpline and Drop-in support and information service. He/she will work directly with Management in ensuring the safety & well-being of residents/clients and staff at all times and to ensure the smooth & safe running of the Refuge

A full driving licence is desirable.

Appointments subject to evidence of educational qualifications, two satisfactory written references and up to date Garda vetting.

Refuge Worker

Reporting to: Manager
Location: Waterford City
Closing date: 5pm on 29th August 2022
Hours: Variable – day, night, weekend work will be required. Oasis House provides a 24/7 service throughout the year.

Minimum Educational Requirements:

  • A level 8 degree in Applied Social Studies in Social Care or equivalent. A level 7 will be considered based on relevant experience.

Knowledge and Skills

An understanding of the issue of Domestic Abuse and Homelessness. Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the non-judgemental nature of our work. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to work effectively with in a team. Flexibility with regard to working hours. Experience of working or volunteering in a Social Care Setting would be a distinct advantage.

A full driving licence is desirable.
