Clondalkin Travellers Development Group invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of:

Community Worker with a focus on Drugs and Alcohol Diversion

Clondalkin Travellers Development Group (CTDG) is a community development project aiming to promote the social, economic, civic, political and cultural rights of Travellers as a nomadic ethnic group in Irish society. CTDG works with Travellers in the Clondalkin, Lucan, Newcastle and Palmerstown geographical areas. It is currently seeking to employ a full time Community Worker who will focus on drugs and alcohol diversion.

The principles of community development underpin all the work of CTDG.

The main areas of work will be to:

  • To address the needs of Travellers who are at risk of drug and substance misuse due to the impact of exclusion from health services, employment, education or youth initiatives.
  • To work closely with main-stream drug and alcohol services to support access for Travellers and their families
  • To support Travellers and their families in linking with services including drug, support, education and training services
  • To support young Travellers to participate in mainstream youth services
  • To develop targeted programmes for those identified as being ‘at risk’
  • To develop and deliver a range of programmes aimed at Travellers with a focus on prevention
  • To provide an outreach service to those who are hard to reach
  • To work in conjunction with local drug services to develop strategies to improve accessibility for members of the Traveller Community
